Our inaugural Savor Piedmont season is officially a wrap!

Nine groups, 70 travelers, and hundreds of bottles shipped home to keep the experience going long after the suitcases were unpacked.

Just as meaningful are the relationships we strengthened with our partners across the region. To the winemakers, chefs, guides, and hosts who welcomed our guests so warmly, thank you for sharing your time, your stories, and your corner of Piedmont with us.

And to everyone who joined us for this first season, thank you for being part of the beginning. We’re closing the season with full hearts, plenty of stories, and so much excitement for next year.

Ci vediamo in Piemonte!

PS. Photo taken from one of our hot air balloon excursions!

Thank you so much to @prunottowinery and @berkmann_wine for the most wonderful three days spent in Piedmont enjoying the exceptional wine and food of the region. It was joyful spending time in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Langhe region in the company of a great group of people.

#bussiabarolo 1990 and the delicious local speciality of Vitello Tonnato will be particularly fondly remembered!

Our very first Barolo! We found this bottle during our layover in Copenhagen during our holiday. We loved the minimalist and elegant design of the bottle. We are still very inexperienced with Italian wines, so we really didn’t know what to expect from this bottle.

Beautifully pale, almost translucent ruby red with a little hint of garnet.

We drank this alongside a glass of Burgundy, so the aromas felt a little less intense compared to our Nuits-Saint-Georges. However, one striking difference was the subtle hint of rose among the red fruits, especially cherry and raspberry. The secondary aromas weren’t very prominent, but they were there in the form of baking spices.

Upon drinking, it almost gave us a shock because of the shockingly high acidity. I had a mouth ulcer at the time and it was literally screaming for help lol. 😂 A good thing though, because we love anything with high acidity.

The tannins were also quite high, but in a very elegant and fine way, which made the wine surprisingly easy to drink. We aerated it for around 45–60 minutes before drinking, and the finish was quite long.

As we drank, the red fruits and roses seemed to dance across our mouths for quite a long time, which was really pleasant.

All in all, this was a very, very enjoyable wine. And don’t let the beautiful colour fool you. This glass packs a punch, and we really loved the structure. It was definitely one of the most structured wines we’ve ever tried.

We are super pleased with this random find. However, my mouth ulcer was definitely not pleased at all. It was in pain the entire time lol. 😂🍷
