Inhabiting the Landscape: Collective Garments for a Living Ecology
Fashion Show & Public Conversation

Saturday, October 24, 2026 | 3–4:30 PM

@PS122 Gallery, 150 First Ave, NYC

Yohanna Roa & Felicia Young present nine wearable artworks developed over the past four years through the Costume/Bio-Arts workshops Yohanna Roa led as Costume/Textile Artist-in-Residence and Workshop Instructor with Earth Celebrations. Created collectively with community participants for Ecological City: Procession for Climate Solutions directed by Felicia Young, these garments explore urban ecology, environmental awareness, and the relationships between artistic production, ecological knowledge, and community participation.

The fashion show will be followed by a public conversation with Felicia Young, Founder and Executive Director of Earth Celebrations, and Yohanna M. Roa, examining how collaborative artistic practices can generate environmental awareness, shared knowledge, and forms of collective action.

About the speakers

Yohanna M. Roa is a New York-based transcultural feminist visual artist working across performance, textiles, garment-making, and critical archival intervention. Her practice examines how history, knowledge, and memory are materially produced and embodied. Through wearable works and participatory textile processes, she approaches the body as a site of knowledge and artistic production as a method of research, collaboration, and public engagement.

Felicia Young is a social-action artist and Founder and Executive Director of Earth Celebrations, a nonprofit organization based on New York’s Lower East Side. Since 1991, she has developed interdisciplinary art projects integrating visual art, performance, public processions, education, and civic participation to address environmental and social issues, including community-garden preservation, watershed restoration, coastal resilience, and climate action.

I am delighted to invite you to the opening reception of ADDED VALUES + / a generous landscape, an exhibition by @the29.art a collective of women in the arts, presented at PS122 Gallery, 150 First Avenue, New York, on October 6, 6–8 PM. @ps122gallery
I will be presenting The Kitchen II, an installation and performance.

I am honored to be part of this exhibition alongside a remarkable group of artists: Marta Edelheit, Lucía Minervi, Karen Moss, Helen Oji, Kathy Brew, Susan Salinger, Liz Canner, Stefani Mar, Virginia Reath, Aline Mare, Betsy Weis, Phoebe Legere, and me.

Special thanks to Susan Salinger @salingersusan and Liz Canner for inviting me to be part of this project.

Exhibition runs: October 8–31, 2026

My work expands the kitchen as a political device—a charged space where the intimate, the domestic, the social, and the political intersect. Through installation and performance, The Kitchen II considers the kitchen not simply as a site of domestic labor, but as a space of memory, transmission, embodiment, and transformation, where relationships between bodies, materials, care, and power become visible.

I will also be performing twice during the exhibition, on October 13 and October 24. More information coming soon.

ADDED VALUES + / a generous landscape proposes a reconsideration of landscape beyond the image: as a space we inhabit, construct, transform, and share. Bringing together practices that engage with bodies, histories, memory, nature, materiality, violence, care, and systems of representation, the exhibition asks how we might understand landscape through interdependence rather than appropriation and domination.

The exhibition emerges from the collective practice of the29.art, founded during the pandemic as an experiment in creating a space for self-identified women artists to gather, exchange ideas, present work, and build community on their own terms. The exhibition reflects this ongoing process of conversation, collaboration, and shared inquiry.

Join all the artists this Sunday 5-7pm for a final walk-through and closing reception. It’s been very special to work with these amazing artists and with the wonderful Kaleb Wise, director at @ps122gallery. It’s been a joy to envision this exhibition and see it come to fruition. PS122 is a longstanding artists’ space- a rare NYC institution where artists and curators can explore and design projects and exhibitions.

I’m so proud of how this show came together- a beautiful diversity of line manifesting in conceptually, aesthetically, and materially different and surprising form. The artists each follow line as a train of thought moving through space, in performance, graphite, glass, solar powered sound, lace, and installation. The works speak to one another thoughtfully and wonderfully.

A catalog is in the works!

Artists: Colleen Coleman, Katherine Jackson, Chris Kaczmarek, Patricia Miranda, Jo Yarrington

So glad to have gotten to Governor’s Island finally to see Crit Lab Fellow Colleen Coleman’s amazing installation- Periwinkle, Mourning Doves, and Pound Cake; In Search of our Mothers Gardens. (Favorite title ever). A beautiful and moving project - Colleen is rocking it! She is also included in the exhibition at PS122 Gallery- join us for a closing Sunday Sept 27, 5-7pm.

And of course discovered more Crit Lab artists and friends along the way…

Crit Lab artist Priscilla Stadler’s fabulous divination project finding mussels in NYC waterways. An ongoing project using mussels as inspiration and remediation in the fight against pollution in our waters, with heart and humor. Wonderful collaboration with Emily Garfield.

Crit Lab Fellow Christina Massey -hard at work always with her sculptures created from repurposed beer cans- a project also growing off the wall and into a community space.

I also ran into Gerardo Morantes- an artist who @chris.kaczmarek curated into Art in Odd Places 2024 CARE- we had a lovely conversation and walkabout- and I got to see his work as well.

And lucky to catch a work by @pateraperego_studio along the way! Always surprising and evocative work around text as a formal and conceptual language.

Thru a window saw Roya Amigh’s installation- always thoughtful tender and beautiful work.

Much more to see and tell- I hadn’t been out to Gov’s island in a long time. Such a fun inspiring day full of great conversations with artists. My favorite thing. Wonderful things are happening there. #ilovenyc❤️

Begining at 2:00pm and running till around 4:00pm

PS122 Gallery

One of the affiliated events of the exhibition
Dot, Line, Thread, Wave

Artists: Colleen Coleman, Katherine Jackson, Christopher Kaczmarek, Patricia Miranda, Jo Yarrington

A point walks into a line, a body draws lines in space, a line of thread pierces through cloth, a dot etches glass, a wave of light reverberates into sound. From neurological brain waves flowing from arm to form, these artists use line to create multi-dimensional conceptual drawings; on paper and on walls, in lace and in glass, in performance, and through invisible lines of light and sound. Together their works draw a resonant immersive world.

Thanks to all who came to the wonderful Poetry Reading yesterday at @ps122gallery. The sound of poems emanating into the air amongst the work of the show felt like a completion of the curation. So moving!

Many thanks to the gracious and generous poets Eso Malflor, Rosanna Warren, David Weiss.
