What if I told you a song performed by Kendrick during the Super Bowl halftime show samples a freestyle classic by a female from Miami?

Swipe to meet Debbie Deb

Born Deborah Claire Wesoff-Kowalski

Raised in North Miami Beach

NMB High Class of 1984

During her senior year in high school, Deborah was discovered while working at Peaches Records & Tapes 163rd St by local producer "Pretty" Tony Butler

A few days later they linked up at Butler's Liberty City studio and recorded "When I Hear Music," a freestyle classic recently sampled on K.Dot's "Squabble Up"

Fun Fact: WIHM itself sampled Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock"

DD added a few more freestyle hits to her resume like "Lookout Weekend" and "Funky Little Beat" (cover) and still performs shows to this day, fam

So about last night! 🔥 First time this weekend performing my 1992 remix of When I hear Music, me and Pretty Tony did this for fun. It’s my favorite song he recorded ever with my dear friend, and my Miami home girl Debbie Deb. 💜👑(I was having vocal problems but still worked it out 💪🏽)

Cultura urbana!
