Perfect fall day for our Fall Bird Migration Walk with Mark Faherty. We saw dozens of Green-winged Teal Ducks, a sharp-shinned Hawk, Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned kinglets, as well as others! And a bonus of beautiful butterflies including a Red Admiral! But it was the autumn colors that were the scene stealer this morning! Get out there and see for yourself! 🍁

A new chapter for a Provincetown landmark. The historic Lancy Mansion is undergoing renovation, bringing new attention to one of Ptown’s most distinctive old buildings.

Seeing these historic structures get a chance at a new life is always something special.

There is nothing quite like hiking through Provincetown when the autumn colors take over. A stroll around Clapps Pond is absolute magic right now, with the vibrant fall foliage framing the water perfectly. Pack a sweater, grab a camera, and catch these coastal autumn views before they’re gone!

For more than a century, The Monument has stood On The Hill. Solid, familiar, steady, unmoving, and unmistakable. Yet there are millions of photos, drawings, and paintings of it, and no two are exactly the same.

Some things stay stoic and unflinching while everything around them changes. The clouds move. The light shifts. The weather rolls in and out. The stars come out. Seasons change. Provincetown changes. The landscape changes. And through it all, The Monument remains unchanged.

It stays still, a genuine beacon, a visual compass, a sight that triggers memories, feelings, excitement, and joy as constant change swirls around it.

Be part of the changing landscape of this magnificent campus overlooking an extraordinary expanse of light, land, and sea. The leaves on the trees have begun to change, the crowds have thinned, and it’s the right time for you to enjoy this spectacle of engineering against a backdrop of staggering natural beauty.

We’re still open seven days a week, 10 AM–4 PM, with last tickets sold at 3 PM, last climb at 3:15 PM, and last inclined elevator ride 3:45 PM.

Behind the scenes at PMPM, our curatorial team is getting ready for PART THREE of A Town That Worked, opening October 22.

If you saw Parts One and Two, you already know how special this series has been, and we invite you to come back for the third and final installment of the series. And if you haven’t seen any of the series yet? Come catch the finale.

The response to A Town That Worked has been extraordinary. We’ve watched Provincetown locals take trips down memory lane, while visitors get an intimate peek into the beloved businesses, places and people that have shaped this town.

We are enormously grateful to all of you who have dug, sifted, searched, unearthed, dusted off, found, donated, loaned and trusted us with your memory treasures.

Thank goodness you held onto them.

Because that sentimental object tucked away in a drawer, closet, attic or basement, something that once belonged to one very specific and precious moment in time, has become a museum piece. Physical evidence that says: This was here. This mattered. This was part of Provincetown.

There can be reluctance to change. Resistance to it. Nostalgia for what came before. But change comes anyway, season by season, year by year, generation by generation, and with it, Provincetown shifts, adapts and transforms.

But we can still revisit what came before. We can remember it, cherish it and honor it with fondness, tenderness, heartache, and saudade, as they say in Portugal: that deep, bittersweet longing for something beloved that is no longer within reach. And then we can embrace the Provincetown of now and whatever comes next…
knowing that its extraordinary past helped pave the way.

Provincetown is always changing.

Because everything is always changing.

Because change is the only constant.

On October 22, we open the third and final installment of A Town That Worked:

CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT

An appropriate finale to a series about a town that has never stopped becoming.
