@consulmexlan @puentearquitectonico @carlos_glezgtez @aida.velasco.338 @victorvilchiss @uscarchitecture @sarah_lorenzen @herrastijose @thesomosgroup @alfredfraijojr @s_al_a_a @denise.luna.acevedo @argoterodolfo @alex_santander_a @ligadf @productora_df @carlosbedoyaikeda @arroyosolisagraz @solexico @arroyoirigoyen @arq_y_di @b0rderb0y #PuenteArquitectónico #ExpandedBorders #ArquitecturaMexicana #uscarchitecture

Working across Los Angeles and Mexico City, I see how ideas travel between communities and take on new meaning in different places. Last Friday, I had the opportunity to deliver opening remarks at Puente Arquitectónico 2026: Expanded Borders, held at the USC School of Architecture. The symposium brought together architects, designers, and leaders to explore how collaboration and the exchange of ideas can help shape the future of our built environment. Our cities face many shared challenges, from housing and development to preserving the histories and identities of our neighborhoods. Addressing these challenges requires us to look beyond geographic boundaries, learn from different perspectives, and recognize the connections between our communities. At Somos Group, we believe meaningful progress begins with collaboration and an understanding of the people and places our work impacts. Conversations like Expanded Borders remind us of the importance of bringing different perspectives together to create communities that work. Thank you to Puente Arquitectónico, the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles, USC School of Architecture, and everyone who helped make this gathering possible.

The 2nd event in collaboration between the Consulate General of Mexico and the USC School of Architecture, Expanded Borders brings together practitioners from the Tijuana–Los Angeles corridor to discuss how a new generation of architects is expanding the limits of the discipline past geopolitical and disciplinary boundaries by building binational platforms for research, curation, and education. Across the Tijuana–Los Angeles corridor, a generation of architects has extended the limits of their discipline by building platforms alongside their practice: research laboratories, curatorial spaces, schools, and binational convening programs. Expanded Borders brings together practitioners from the corridor to ask what an architect does when the studio is not enough, and how a practice expands geographically and disciplinarily at the same time, operating on both sides of the border. The panel proposes that the most consequential border of the corridor is not the geopolitical one, already extensively documented, but the disciplinary border that separates the architect from the curator, the researcher, the editor, and the educator. @consulmexlan RSVP in bio link!

At Somos Group, we work across the United States and Mexico to shape the future of our cities, bringing together law, policy, planning, and development to advance housing and community investment. That work reinforces the value of planning across borders—learning from how neighboring cities approach shared challenges while grounding each project in local needs. I look forward to continuing that conversation as I deliver opening remarks at Puente Arquitectónico 2026: Expanded Borders at the USC School of Architecture. Bringing together architects, students, and design professionals from across the Tijuana-Los Angeles corridor, the gathering will explore how collaboration across geographies and disciplines can inform the places we plan and build. From housing and public space to mobility, our cities have much to learn from one another. I’m eager to share lessons from our work and hear how colleagues on both sides of the border are translating ideas into projects that serve their communities. Join us on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the USC School of Architecture’s Gin Wong Auditorium.
