The Museum of the City of New York @museumofcityny and @puffinbrooklyn just relaunched the ongoing permanent exhibition dedicated to activism and organizing in New York City, Raise Your Voice: New York Activism. I was very excited when curator Sarah Seidman @sarahjseidman approached me about creating an iteration of my Graphic Liberation projects in the exhibition. We hit on a virtual installation of my rubber stamp political icons, and Kudos Interactive @kudosnyc beautifully converted the idea into an interactive touch screen built into the exhibition. More and full write-up on the @justseeds blog, justseeds.org/blog
If you’re in NYC, check it out, its super fun for seasoned poster vets and first time designers!

so i’ve been working on poems for Swing Mezzo and research and art and it’s all coming together with an artist residency at Our House @iloveourhouse and an opening show on November 6 @youngamericancider (after the show there will be a short procession to Our House. If you come, dress jewel-toned and fly!) Tickets are now on sale for the show and the NUMEROUS public events that are being offered at Our House the November 6 event will also feature @stephco_media and new music from @kendrahebw and jazz standards from @hiwotadilow and percussion from @karensmithdrums and possibly a special guest appearance. we will have ASL interpretation @dhccphilly on November 6. November 27 there will also be a closing reception at Our House with @cvgebird DJing for part of the night. @ayianaviviana and @yes.enia.v will also be holding space in the gallery, making new work, sharing visual art. The offerings will include the website launch of @kirwynsutherland and a talk with designer @daughteroftheyam among other events (like numerous community scanning opportunities). Two of the workshops will also benefit raising funds for ASL interpretation at @wildindigo.poetry This is only possible through the generous support of @thevelocityfund and @puffinbrooklyn NOTE my Nov 20th artist hours will NOT by at Our House because I’ll be keynote speaking at NCTE!

Get @reshare_app • @dissentmag Cover Art/Other Art is an exhibit of three working artists at the Puffin Foundation’s Brooklyn location. The exhibit explores the intersection between “creative work” and “commercial work.”

Tabitha Arnold, Molly Crabapple, and Matt Rota are well established artists working in illustrative journalism, but each of them has an expansive creative practice outside of their commissioned work. This exhibition gives viewers a sense of their range while highlighting some of the important independent media that The Puffin Foundation supports. It asks what threads bind creative and commercial work together, and considers what it means to be a “working artist” when creative livelihoods are increasingly under threat from unregulated AI.

Co-presented with The Puffin Foundation, the exhibit includes drawings, prints, and zines by Matt Rota; paintings and journals by Molly Crabapple; and the punch needle tapestries of Tabitha Arnold.

On view:
Sunday, Oct 11th - Sunday, Dec 13th.
Tues, Thur, Sat, Sun from 11-5.

227 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Gray Zones was inspired by the semiquincentennial of the United States, which feels less united with every passing day. Yet the reality is that all of us, whether we are urban or rural, queer or straight, born in the USA or elsewhere, share similar struggles, loves, hardships, and joys.

The dominant narrative is invested in dividing us to concentrate wealth and power in the hands of the few while keeping the rest of us on the margins. This exhibition – an extraordinary collection of work by highly accomplished photographers – challenges viewers to reconsider traditional lines of division.

It invites us to see ourselves in each other, regardless of race, class, or other differences. It reminds us that solidarity is not only possible but necessary if we are to continue as a nation.

After the first blizzard in a decade bore down on NYC, a giant snowball fight ensued at Washington Square Park. This painting, a big cartoon really, is a tongue in cheek homage. It got a bit of a chuckle from visitors to my exhibit at Gallery 198, some of whom had witnessed the snowballs flying. I included the painting to help lighten the mood of the exhibit, which takes on more political and existential themes: American Carnage & Other Concerns. #washingtonsquarepark #fallart

One in four series for the Fall Exhibition. American Carnage examines the erosion of Enlightenment ideals and presents several instances where the fundamental principles of Western liberal democracy are being challenged by authoritarian impulses. The artist would like to thank the Puffin Foundation for its support of this project. #politicalart #creativebond #gallery198
