MILAN, 2026 | WHAT I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS LOOKING FOR

What did hospitality give me that I didn’t know I was looking for?
A few days ago, I asked this question to the people I’ve met along the way. Now it’s my turn to answer.
When I entered this industry, I wasn’t searching for a community, belonging or a greater purpose. I simply wanted to make a living doing what I loved, photography.
Instead, I found people who saw something in me I wasn’t sure existed, but wanted to believe was there. People who opened doors, trusted my vision and made me feel part of something bigger than myself.
Over time, that trust became a responsibility, to document not only what this industry achieves, but who we are.
To me, photography has never been just about freezing a moment. It’s about everything that leads us to it, the people we choose to photograph, the stories we tell, what we include in the frame and what we leave outside it.
A moment lasts a fraction of a second. But how we portray it can shape the way it’s understood decades, perhaps a hundred years, from now. That’s the beauty and responsibility of telling stories through images.
Looking back at Milan, I see far more than an awards ceremony.
I see people. Friendships built over years. Lives crossing paths. Dreams realised. Embraces and fleeting moments that may never happen quite the same way again.
Some will be remembered by thousands. Others may matter only to those who were there.
To me, they are equally worth remembering.
I don’t pretend to tell the whole story. I’m simply grateful to be trusted with a small part of it.
And perhaps that’s what hospitality gave me without my knowing I was looking for it: a sense of purpose. The chance to preserve the human stories behind this community, and the hope that my photographs will mean something beyond the moments they captured.
Legacy is not just what we leave behind.
It’s what we make possible for others.
Thank you for letting me be part of your stories.

🍸 A Love Letter to Lyan Martinis!

Martinis have become one of the drinks of the moment, but despite their timelessness & the incredible display of complex-simplicity they employ, people think there can’t be faithful innovations without bastardising the purity of the classic. Martinis, Manhattans and Daiquiris are some of my absolute favorite classics, and I love how all the Lyan bars do incredible classic versions of these drinks, but also have pulled out some unbelievable riffs over the years.

There’s inevitably something magical about a Martini, and we’ve been able to push the drink (respectfully!) in all sorts of ways. People often say you shouldn’t list one (or that there are no worthwhile twists), but our takes have been some of my all-time favourite Lyan drinks, and some of our most requested!

Swipe for some of my favourites:

These are all genuinely killer versions of a Martini, and show how it can still have all the alchemical magic, and you can go beyond just varying your garnish to still have a clean, dry, aperitif whilst still innovating and pushing the drink forwards. They’re all mega delicious!
🦁❤️🍸

@lyanessbar has had some of belters — the Unfiltered Martini, which uses a bonkers techniques to make potatoes 🥔 taste like vanilla ice cream; the Cereal Martini, exploring off-dry nuttiness & texture; and the Chet² Martini, using direct-sourced, fermented cacao beans to give volume to a Vodka Martini. Plus two super luxurious Special Editions — The Score and ATOM Martini 🤯

Unfiltered Martini goodies. Potatoes and barley vodka. That’s it. Yet one of the most complex martinis you’ll try

Cereal Martini. An exploration of weight and the magic of good vodka. All the cereal body, in a nutty yet unctuous way

Chet Chet Martini. A collab with our dear friend Chet of the magical BiBi and the incredible ingredients he sources

The Score. Single origin ingredients in a perfectly balanced, very luxe Martini

ATOM martini — one of our favourite techniques applied to a beautifully aromatic tequila Martini

At @super.lyan, the off-dry Nieuwe-Tini uses goat milk whey for a lasting, silky mouthfeel, but also helped highlight the Libecans Martini as an order

One of my favourite parts of travelling is seeing how different places choose to express themselves through food and drink, and spending time in Victoria reminded me just how exciting Australia is right now — and how much I love the Aussie scene! So huge love to @vicdistilled (and @tayla.distilled @janecryan and co!) for such a brilliant trip! (Part 1!)

Judging as the International Judge at the Melbourne Royal Australian Distilled Spirits Awards was a huge privilege. It’s always fascinating getting to spend time with fellow judges, digging into flights of spirits and seeing the breadth of ideas coming through a region, but what really stayed with me was the sheer diversity. There’s a real confidence to what producers are doing here — celebrating local ingredients, embracing a sense of place, and never being afraid to explore new territory — across more than 180 distilleries in Victoria alone.

That curiosity carries through the wider hospitality scene too. Between bar hopping, long meals with pals, and a lols amount of tea (🫖 sorry, despite the fame of the scene, still nae coffee for me!) I was reminded how connected it all feels. Great producers inspiring bartenders, bartenders championing local distillers, restaurants celebrating what’s growing around them — it’s a wonderful ecosystem, and one that feels incredibly generous to visitors.

Massive thanks to everyone at Melbourne Royal and Vic Distilled for the invitation! It’s always a joy to spend time with people who care so deeply about flavour, hospitality, and creating things that genuinely reflect where they come from, and I can’t wait to return — once the jetlag has subsided 🦁🦘🇦🇺
