Spring Forecast - Nightlife Movement

Episode summary

The dance floor is a mirror of society, a place where club culture, current politics and, contemporary dance can meet. This episode explores social dancing as both personal freedom, artistic creation and public act: from the Spring Forward festival in Guimarães, Portugal to club-culture initiatives in Malmö, Sweden, we ask what the dance floor reveals about the world we live in - and what it takes to keep it open.

Episode notes

Choreographer Simona Dabija on her debut solo BPM — Beats per Millennium: decades of Romanian party history transformed into artistic creation through movement - how the clubbing of the past shapes the dance of today, and where it might take us next. Nightlife organiser Jonna Blode Hanno on PULSE, initiated by the culture venue Inkonst — a Malmö project mentoring young club collectives, and on her own journey: why nightlife must be valued as culture. On Partying and Aging: research into our current habits and their ties to neoliberal thinking, collected and researched by Chudi (My Friends Show, New York).

✨ This week at STPLN is versatile to say the least: get insights about the freelancing realities, hone marketing skills, buy from and support local designers, and get familiar (or fall in love) with the ancient musical instrument duduk. Welcome, we love having you over 🫶
