Monday is for marimbas!

I’ve seen some… interesting transcription choices floating around for this one, so here’s the real McCoy: the actual Marimba 1/2 part from Pulse 2025’s The Underground.

Find a friend. Cry together. Enjoy yourselves. 😂

We’ve been doing the Pulse showcase for a long time. We have some of the top solo auditions perform for everyone at the end. When I heard Max was playing a 2 mallet solo, I knew the mighty @caseycangelosi was about to be summoned. White Knuckle Stroll, at the end of a massive chop destroying block…that’ll do Max, that’ll do.

Flashback Friday 2023 I had so many memorable days with the kids from Pulse. This year and this performer at at the top of the list. I’m so lucky to have been able to do this for so many years. Marching Band right around the corner. I love to look forward but it’s sure nice to look back. 😊❤️📸 #pulsepercussion #favoriteperformers #frontensemble

2026 @pulsepercussion beats at @wgisportofthearts finals week were absolutely crystal clear. The arrangements are so well balanced and the chops from these members is outrageous. You gotta love the clarity front to back too. Every year Pulse stands out as the pinnacle of readability and front to back alignment. Thank you Pulse, for another memorable year!

It was a great year photographing for Pulse and once again finishing the year at WGI Championships. An amazing organization that consistently puts two awesome shows on the floor. Looking forward to seeing and photographing many of their performers this DCI season!

Incredibly thankful for the monstrous teaching team at Pulse Percussion! Led by the one and only, @trent.gronewold, these folks have been helping us build on every season to get the most out of these already crazy talented performers. This is my 18th Pulse book, WILD.

Preshow vibe was an instant hit courtesy of Trent, love how it led into the opener material. I just showed up one day and it was there and sounded like a ten, amazing!

Source music is Table for Two by Abel Korzeniowski. Found by John as the right vibe to represent the past. At first my poostiness almost dismissed the chart, but the more I sat with it the more obvious it became that it was the right piece. The guitar voice is critical to the show, and wanted him to start on acoustic. Mostly because for my past, the big giants in my memory were @rhythmxinc 2009 Touch and @rccdrums 2005 Manifest Destiny - both had simple but iconic acoustic guitar roles that made the music so memorable! This was my tip of the hat to @andrewmarkworth and @wunderpitmusic as the OG’s of PIW front ensemble.

I opted out of any overt sound design and deep electronics in mvt 1 to let the parts do the thing, and also leave some sonic development for later as the show went on. Nostalgia with a taste of melancholy is one wrong sound away from ruining the vibe so had to tread carefully and keep the language all feeling like a natural extension of the Table for Two music.#wgi #frontensemble #indoorpercussion #marimba
