Meet Parker Hursty (ENG ‘28) who is participating in the Sydney Junior Engineering program this spring semester! 🇦🇺🐨

Hello! My name is Parker and I’m a sophomore studying electrical engineering. I’ve been spending this semester with BU’s Sydney Engineering Abroad program taking classes at the University of Sydney and BU Sydney Center while also participating in an internship.

I had always known that Sydney would be my ideal study abroad destination, and my first four months here have absolutely lived up to my expectations! The warm weather here is a welcome change from Boston, so I’ve been making the most of it by surfing, swimming, exploring beaches, and experiencing all the beautiful nature Australia has to offer. Sydney is such a diverse and vibrant city, with some of the best cafés, restaurants, and coffee I’ve ever had. Studying at the University of Sydney has given me a unique perspective on Australian university culture and allowed me to connect with people from across Australia and around the world. Through the ARTS2600 internship program, I’ve been matched with a research position where I’m using machine learning and data science to analyze drone imagery and study rural regions of New South Wales affected by drought. I’m especially excited to be traveling to Narrabri, NSW with the team next month to collect field data and experience rural Australia. Sydney’s proximity to South East Asia has allowed me to visit beautiful places such as Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia + Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An, Vietnam.
