I’m so excited to welcome Melissa Gonzalez @purposepivotwithmelissa @melsstyles to @thehivery on November 4th for a conversation about her new book The Purpose Pivot.

I think so many of us can relate to having our lives, careers, and sense of purpose shift when something unexpected happens.

When Melissa publicly shared a medical emergency that changed the way she thought about her career and what mattered most, something remarkable happened. Dozens of women reached out to share their own stories. Many had experienced similar life-changing moments but had been afraid to talk about them.

I love that one woman’s willingness to be vulnerable gave so many others permission to open up.

We’ll be talking about those unexpected turning points, the courage it takes to rethink what’s next, and how our purpose can evolve throughout our lives.

September 30th was a different kind of birthday.🎂

One year of embracing what my lived experiences have taught me.
Collaborating with powerful women I admire.
The workshops. The book stops. The conversations.
And through all of it, experiencing firsthand the power of community.

In this first year of The Purpose Pivot, I found new parts of myself.
I watched people I know—and people I had never met—feel seen by this conversation.
But I also witnessed the gap between “I feel seen” and “I know how to change.”
And that is the work still ahead.

This is just year one. My hope is that a year from now, we’ve continued to close that gap—making it more possible to put well-being on equal footing with ambition and success throughout our careers.

Hi, I’m Melissa, co-host of @offtherecordleadership 👋

I’ve always been interested in the part of success people rarely see: the choices, pivots, pressure, and personal evolution behind the outside story.

My career has taken me from Wall Street to founding The Lionesque Group, joining MG2 through acquisition, becoming a shareholder at Colliers Engineering & Design through a second acquisition, hosting Retail Refined, and writing The Purpose Pivot.

But the real “why me” isn’t the list of roles.
I’ve been the founder, the acquired founder, and the executive learning how to lead within increasingly complex organizations. I’ve built teams, navigated major transitions, and had to reconsider whether the definition of success that brought me this far could carry me forward.

I don’t come to these conversations because I have leadership completely figured out. I come to them because I know what it feels like to evolve while you’re still responsible for leading others.
The Purpose Pivot opened a deeply personal conversation for me about ambition, alignment, and sustainable success. With my co-host @giovannizac, Off the Record Leadership expands that conversation through the experiences of other leaders.

I want to know:
What shaped you? What changed you? What did success not prepare you for?
In other words, I ask a lot of questions—and there is almost always a follow-up. 🎙️
