Chettinad Suite - set 2 . The musicians. In this selection of 4 portraits curated in two panels, the focus is on court musicians and their intricate instruments. The fluid lines of the Hansa pakshi motifs on the borders mimics the curvy figurative detailing of the instruments contrasted with the graphics structure of checkered floors of palaces and mansions . #teakpanels #chandandubeyphotoplus

Chettinad Suite: Set 1 The royals .
Inspired by late 18th-century reverse glass painting and Tanjore mural motifs, this selection explores a distinctive, lesser-known genre of Indian art- reverse glass painting.
Unlike the strict iconographic canons of traditional Tanjore ateliers, these works a product of India’s colonial heritage offer a tongue-in-cheek look at the fashionable elite—the first upwardly mobile Indian courtiers.
In terms of pallet and structure this trio of two panel sets are minimal with the use of red black white and gold colors.

The use of geometric patterns inspired by South Indian temple architecture and the iconic graphic checkerboard floors of Chettinad mansions acts as a quirky foil to the richness of the art .

Miniature Suite: Set 3 - a set of four art works inspired by the Amber - Jaipur school of miniature painting (17-19th century) famous for its portraiture blending intimate refined aesthetics and romantic subjects adds a feminine contrast to the Maharaja and Mounts panels. The lyrical lines of the artwork are tied together with pattern inspired by soft florals of carpets and geometric floral tiles from royal mansions and palaces. #teakpanels

Miniature Suite: Set 2 - following yesterday’s process reveal for the 16 panel project, I am diving into the specific details of the second set of Maharajas and Mounts. The fluid delicate lines of the Mughal and Rajput miniature portraits are held in place by a rigid structured framework of Arabesque and Islamic geometry. At the centre sits a heavy brass knocker - a tactile, functional anchor.

Miniature Suite: Set 1 Maharajas and Mounts - starting today, I am sharing a recent completed 16-panel commission. The opening set features a set of two panels inspired by various traditions on Indian Miniature painting. Regal and masculine, this first set captures royal portraits from the Mughal and Rajput schools - royal portraits combined with Maharajas at the head of processions or hunting parties, commanding their equally handsome entourages. The composition is anchored by intricate Arabesque and Islamic geometric patterns, creating a structured architectural framework for the fluid miniature style. At the heart is a heavy brass knocker, a tactile detail that transforsms the flat surface . #fineartpanels #teakpanels #chandandubeyphotoplus
