Tattooing the Synthetic (2025)
Metal plate, Metal pipe, Acrylic glass, Wire rope, Screws

“Tattooing the Synthetic” explores the speculative proposition of AI possessing a body that can be marked, inscribed, and tattooed. Framing AI’s synthetic skin as a site for cultural memory, spiritual motifs, and collaborative authorship, which combines traditional Thai tattoo aesthetics with machine-generated design. It draws on interdisciplinary frameworks from posthumanism, postcolonial theory, and feminist technoscience, The work interrogates how synthetic materials, such as metal, polymer, and algorithmic code, become carriers of visual knowledge and cultural continuity in a posthuman age. Ultimately, it considers what it means for AI to create and remember through aesthetic inscriptions that link tradition and innovation across synthetic bodies.
