With spring and summer arriving, I am organizing a series of 4 workshops to teach techniques for dyeing with botanical colours. The workshop series is hosted at my studio in Rotterdam, at PB3. On sunny days we can be outdoors in the studio’s garden where I am currently creating a dye garden and where we can get to know some of the dye plants we will be using. After having taught different workshops last year, I had the desire to organize sessions where to delve deeper into each technique, and give each step its own slow and deserved timing. Therefore, I am launching the following series of workshops:  25 May__ Foundations of natural dyeing: scouring and mordanting. An introduction to learning the basics in order to prepare fabrics and yarns to receive the dyes. We will be scouring and mordanting protein and plant-based fibers to reach diverse and intense colours.  8 June__Painting with mordants + immersion dye  We will learn a different mordanting process compared to the first session, and use a mordant for painting figures and shapes on fabric with a brush. We will proceed to the immersion dye process, discuss how to prepare dye baths, use an iron solution for shifting colours, and get to know some dye plants. 29 June__Botanical prints: bundle dye  We will experiment with techniques for creating prints of flowers, leaves, and roots on fabric. 20 July__Botanical dye pastes for painting on fabric We will create concentrated dyes and use them to paint on fabric. To participate and learn more about the workshops follow the link in the bio and fill out the form. More information on each session will be shared here and at the link in bio soon.  You can contact me directly here on per email at studio.miriamdelseppia@gmail.com Pictures: 1: illustration by dear @caterinanissim <3 2-7 : pictures of dye processes, materials and results during some of the workshops I have taught 3,6 : pictures by Laura Guastini 5,7 : pictures by Arvo Leo
