Aimee,
I saw you tonight.
Not just the you in your cap and gown.
Not even the you with your many accomplishments.
I quietly in my heart acknowledged that you have grown to be a steady and true woman of God.
I didn’t even cry.
I was just so proud. 🎓🩷

This past weekend (while the kids were away) Paul treated me to an extended birthday weekend in Birmingham. He took me around to places he found and thought I’d like - antique stores, the best eats, a private tour of Vulcan and the skyline at dark (well, no one but us happened to be there), boutique shops, and familiar stomping grounds around Samford from his college running days.
For almost two straight days we never stopped talking. We rested. We sipped lattes without need of sugar. We laughed. We reflected - and yes, even with regret we forgave each other decade old habits that we’ve grown in love to help each other improve.
We’re so different now.
Our younger selves would praise God at answered prayers above and beyond our imagination (and especially in the gift of our growing, wonderful kids).
We realize we’re in the second chapter of our lives.
We feel sad that certain seasons are beginning to end.
Yet, even in an uncertain future we’re clinging to God first - and then to each other - in all He would have us do.
Being together in it all, whatever may, really is the gift.

We loved seeing families take to the trail this year and enjoy the lights! Someday we will never have to turn them off. For this day, and that holy city, we wait expectantly.
