Turns out, the World Cup was only part of the story. We went to New York for football. We came back with a slightly unreasonable number of memories. Some involved 80,000 people at MetLife watching Brazil play Norway. Some involved a handful of old friends around a concert in Brooklyn, finally together again after far too long. There were incredible people who walked through the doors of @homeoffootballnyc .Conversations we planned. Plenty we didn’t. And a sunset so absurdly beautiful it felt like New York was showing off. Which, to be fair, is very on brand. Experiencing a World Cup in this city was everything I hoped it would be loud, international, unpredictable and occasionally completely surreal. But the older I get, the more I realize that the moments I carry home are rarely the biggest ones. They’re the human ones. That’s true for New York and it’s true for everything we do at PxP. We can come up with the idea. Find the place. Build the program. Open the doors. But then people walk in. And that’s when it becomes something. So I’m grateful for every first encounter, every unexpected one and especially the reunions that took far too long. And apparently, somewhere in all of this, I kissed the World Cup trophy. Fetsum was standing right behind me. Somebody had to supervise. Part II. New York, you were ridiculous. ❤️

Every now and then, the world accidentally gets something right. This summer, it happened in New York. And it started before we even landed. Blumengarten and KitschKrieg on the same flight to NYC. A few weeks later, they seemed to be everywhere. 😉 Germany’s best export this World Cup summer. Definitely more successful than our national team. Unfortunately. Germany vs. Ecuador wasn’t exactly the evening I had imagined. But then Jon Bon Jovi casually appeared in the stands. So there was that. Still surreal. And somewhere in between all of this: @homeoffootballnyc. Our friend Josh, together with Timmy, created something pretty special in the middle of Manhattan. Fetsum and I were lucky to become part of its first chapter and hopefully help lay the foundation for much more to come. These are just a few fragments from those first weeks. People. Places. Football. New York being New York. And my brother and partner Fetsum by my side through all of it. I love what I do. And I never take for granted that encounters like these somehow get to be part of it. Part I. More people. More moments. More beautiful madness in Part II.
