This is not a celebration..
 Entering 2024, I felt very ill and spent the majority of January in bed, unable to do anything. Being forced to pause my life like that gave me a great amount of time to reflect. Why does so much of my hard work go unpaid? Why do these people in higher positions keep telling me no? Why do opportunities never unfold in front of me? Am I working hard enough? Am I really waiting for people to give me permission to achieve my goals? Am I not able to create my own opportunities? The answer to most of my questions was to open up to new experiences.
 After 28 years, and for the first time as an adult, I revisited the land of my people: Cape Verde. Being there felt like coming home and quenching a thirst I didn’t realize I had. Being immersed in my own culture, surrounded by a people in every shade of black. Breathing the fresh air of the Atlantic Ocean, and eating sweet mangoes and papayas. Experiencing the monumental valleys from my mother’s childhood stories. Made everything we worry and stress about in our daily lives feel so small. (Message continues in the comment section)
