It was a daydream
An island of boardwalks
Tea, sunsets, and a dock
The men were sweet as sweat
Savored by eyes and lips
We sipped on each other
with rum flooded punches,
negronis and trulys

It was a daydream
Sisters floating in a warm pool
Kissed by the sun and each other
Gentle hands, careful brushing
Of crowns and upper backs
They whisked batter and scrambled eggs
Folded love into warm towels
With promises to care for each other

It was a daydream
An ebb and flow of minutes
maybe days, hours perhaps
Watches unbuckled, stored away
At five, or six, or seven, we descend
A gaggle to the blue whale
A stumble up to the pavilion
And the drunken gallop back home

It was a daydream
Drag queens were godmothers
Ten dollars, five, and certainly ones
We tipped on rules broken
And tapped on grids that chirp
Invites to late night departures
And returns for breakfast coffee
Iced, like the palace and her dark room

But Thursday wakes the daydream
The lights turn on, and leftovers thrown out
We packed away our jockstraps
Traded in crop tops for tshirts
Short shorts fell from thighs to knees
From ferry, to train, to subway
Another stop, another mask

And daydreams they end
We said goodbye to sisters departing
Our hearts tugged by the cords
Woven with stars under a full moon
She pulled us like water from a cocktail to the sea
Our daydream becomes a memory
At least until the next high tea
