Best Father’s Day ever? Not only did my kid drive hundreds of miles from LA to spend the weekend with me in Bozeman Montana, but she also paid for the Father’s Day breakfast! So many first on this Father’s Day. 😌
So special I will never forget it.

… The concept and practice of removal was, for the artist, a form of accounting, and then, as an ongoing series, an accumulation. The mirror as warping device is central to the Library of Black Lies (2013–18). While Arceneaux’s recent abstractions may seem a significant shift in his oeuvre, Skinning the Mirror continues his critical inquiry of mirror and mirroring, metaphorical vision and blindness, and dismantling to create.

On the occasion of the exhibition, curator and writer Jenelle Porter reflects on Arceneaux’s newest body of work:

“In 2020, Edgar Arceneaux added process painting to his multimedia art practice. The paintings included in We Are Gods continue this sustained inquiry of the intersection of abstraction and materiality. The exhibition title alludes to a metaphysical continuum that connects life and death. This is the artist’s third gathering of Skinning the Mirror, an ongoing series of paintings composed of acrylic and mirror on canvas. Making paintings from small to mural size, Arceneaux tests material processes against scale as a means to consider a body in relation to vision, and in relation to making. The paintings comprising We Are Gods demonstrate Arceneaux’s expanding investigations of expression via color and composition.

Today is the last day to see my show THE FALL at @Dreamsong Gallery in Minneapolis,. It’s been a two year journey making this body of work and so grateful to show it’s conclusion at DreamSong in 2025. Thank you to everyone who supported this work and me during these two years and plan on continuing to keep my studio in the Twin Cities in 2026 so hope to see you there in the mean streets of Minneapolis.

The Fall opens tomorrow 11/8, 6-8pm, at Dreamsong, the culmination of a 2 1/2 year residency in Minneapolis, making work inspired by seasons of both weather and political change.
