When Todd Oldham turned fashion into pure ’90s fantasy. ✨

For Spring/Summer 1995, Todd Oldham played with proportion, colour, texture and spectacle, creating a collection that felt deliberately excessive without taking itself too seriously. His approach was all about throwing the audience a curveball, taking familiar ideas and twisting them into something unexpected.

Walking the runway, Shalom Harlow appeared in a striking metallic bodice paired with an explosion of colourful, sculptural fabric. The look captures exactly what made Oldham's work so distinctive: fashion that was playful, theatrical and unapologetically extra.

And that was the Oldham philosophy. He wasn't interested in following a predictable formula. Each season was an opportunity to build a new visual vocabulary, experiment with materials and completely mess with conventional proportions.

When John Galliano created a runway spectacle so extreme, even Steven Spielberg walked out. 🥀⛓️

For Fall/Winter 2000 Haute Couture, Galliano opened with the illusion of a grand society wedding before sending the collection somewhere far darker, exploring sex, fetishism and theatrical fantasy through the language of Dior couture.

The bridal procession soon gave way to a bizarre cast of characters: a French maid with a hickey, a bleeding Marie Antoinette, a sadistic priest, a gorilla-masked showgirl and a terrifying clown. Leather, corsetry, fetish-inspired accessories and even a noose pushed the spectacle far beyond conventional couture.

And then there was the soundtrack. Jeremy Healy, who created Galliano's show soundscapes, recalled mixing Alanis Morissette's Uninvited with sex moans and whip cracks. According to Healy, Steven Spielberg, who had attended hoping to discuss Galliano creating costumes for one of his films, walked out during the show.

Yet beneath all the provocation was extraordinary Dior craftsmanship. The theatrical characters may have stolen the spectacle, but the collection showcased the technical skill of the maison's petites mains at full force.

This wasn't just couture. It was fashion as theatre, provocation and pure Galliano fantasy. 🖤
