Today we highlight Sarah Ellis Eddy, local teacher and philanthropist from Greeley and Fort Collins.

To learn more about Sarah Ellis Eddy and other influential LGBTQ+ Coloradans that made their mark, visit the Queer Memory Project of Northern Colorado, who we've linked to in our bio.

##LGBTHistory Sarah Ellis Eddy moved to Greeley to teach in the late 1800s, opening a local store with two other local women on Laurel Street in Fort Collins in 1881. The store “S.E. Eddy & Co.” sold books and clothing. Eddy is well known for her masculine clothing style, and was a “well-known and beloved” business owner and philanthropist until her death in 1921. 🏳️‍⚧️🕯 Trans Day of Remembrance – Fort Collins 🕯🏳️‍⚧️
This week, we gather to remember the lives of trans people who were taken far too soon due to violence, hate, neglect, and systems that failed them. TDOR is not just a moment of mourning — it is a call to care for the living, to protect one another, and to build communities where trans people are not only safe… but celebrated, supported, and loved.

If you are trans, questioning, nonbinary, or gender-expansive: your existence is powerful. Your joy matters. Your story is not over. 🩵🤍🩷
If you are an ally: this is a moment to listen, learn, honor, and take action.

We gather not just to mourn, but to affirm:
✨ Trans lives are sacred.
✨ Trans futures matter.
✨ We will keep building a world where safety, joy, and belonging are non-negotiable.

📅 Two local gatherings:
📍 Thurs, Nov 20 – 4:30–5:30pm
Never No Summer Ballroom – CSU
Hosted by ASCSU x BSA, open to All community!

📍 Thurs, Nov 20 – 6–8pm
Center for Creativity – 200 Mathews St
Community vigil & reflection
Hosted by RMEQ, open to all.

✨ All are welcome. Holding space for grief, love, remembrance, and resilience. ✨

⸻

⚠️ Content Warnings (for both events):
• Mention of anti-trans violence and death
• Stories of loss & memorialization
• Names read aloud at evening event
• Emotional topics: grief, injustice, remembrance
• No graphic details are expected, but emotional impact can be strong
🧡 Please take care of yourself. Step outside if needed. Bring a friend. Check in with your body. Support staff & peer listeners are typically available.

🏳️‍⚧️ Trans community = resilient community. May we remember the past, support the present, and fight for a future where trans people not only survive — but thrive. 🌈

Do you spy any of your favorites? 👀

Congratulations to these rock stars for their years of service at CSU, especially Professor Burgchardt! This isn't a math account, so 40 years to us is basically forever.

Next time you see one of these wonderful folks, tell them congrats!

The CSU Pride Resource Center @csupriderc and CSU School of Social Work are hosting a Safe Zone training for Community Providers who support the LGBTQIA+ community on Saturday, April 29th. This is a free, virtual, 3.5 training with the objective of reducing homophobia, transphobia and cisheterosexism at CSU and in our surrounding community, thereby making Northern Colorado a safer environment for all members of our community across sexual and romantic orientations, gender identities and expressions, and intersections of identities.

The content will be expanded beyond our typical CSU-focused curriculum.

Time: 1:00 – 4:30 PM

Location: Zoom

Learning Outcomes:

Hello friends and fabulous FAMily,

NoCoSafeSpace is hosting some upcoming Community Conversations to gather the needs of our local community members and build some energy around our community coming together to create ongoing, active, and sustainable resources and programming in Northern Colorado.

There are four brainstorming sessions in person (the fifth will be virtual) and you can attend any location or time that works well for you. The information will be combined and workgroups will launch soon after. Leaders and followers wanted, workers and doers needed, allies are welcome and all types of skills are needed!

Learn what organizations currently exist, who needs what, and decide which workgroups are needed to build community infrastructure in sustainable ways. It’s time we all bring our energy together and create the change we want to have in our region.

NoCoSafeSpace is simply the host of this space, what we all get out of it will be up to the people in the rooms and the plans we build together.
