This week on "Protis Reviews" will focus on Alan's experience at BIGSOUND 2026. This was his fifth year attending the event, but his first doing media and content creation. It was a lot of hard work, but all in all it was definitely worth it! Alan also conducted a few interviews on-site at what was called Content House, but featured on tonight's show will be the artists and bands that he saw perform at the various venues in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley during BIGSOUND week.

Still reflecting on an incredible week in 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 🇦🇺
From the Gold Coast to Brisbane, 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 was about connection, conversation and creating new pathways.
Our Canadian delegation began on the Gold Coast with pre-BIGSOUND programming, including industry conversations, a look into the region’s live music landscape and a welcome reception hosted by the Mayor of the Gold Coast. A great introduction to Australia before heading into a full week in Brisbane.
At BIGSOUND, I had the opportunity to connect with promoters, venues, programmers, artists and music industry professionals from across Australia and beyond — sharing the work we’re doing with 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜, exploring opportunities for Canadian reggae internationally, and having meaningful conversations around touring, collaboration and cultural exchange.
For me, these rooms matter. They’re where relationships begin, ideas develop and opportunities can take shape long after the conference ends.
A special thank you to QMusic and everyone who helped facilitate the Gold Coast and Brisbane experiences, and to the Canadian team and delegates who made the journey even more memorable. 🇨🇦
Australia was never just about showing up. It was about building relationships, understanding the market and laying the groundwork for what comes next.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join a music export mission to Brisbane and Australia’s Gold Coast, to attend @bigsound and @goolwalgoolwal, facilitated by @cimamusic75 and @mmfcanada. 🇦🇺

See koalas! 🐨 Here’s @alexwyder and me with one at @lonepinekoala (Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary), the world’s oldest and largest koala sanctuary, home to more than 100 koalas and 70 native Australian species.

And kangaroos! 🦘 Here’s @hollismacf and me with our new pals. Pretty wild to walk among and feed free-ranging roo babies at Lone Pine Sanctuary (@lonepinekoala).

Watch the Gold Coast Titans take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs. This experience was the definition of VIP at Cbus Super Stadium (@cbussuper.stadium). Big thanks to our hosts, Stadiums Australia! 🇦🇺

Enjoy some great industry lunches with my fellow Canadian delegates on the Gold Coast. 🌮 Honestly, it felt a little like the start of summer camp!

@ladyhawkeforyou at @crowbarbris. 🦅 I was very into them in my 20s, so seeing them a decade later in Australia, surrounded by a room full of Australian fans, felt like a full-circle treat. 🩵

@rickyneiljr at @thewickham brought dance, funk, attitude and flamboyance, with bonus points for incorporating a luchador mask. 🕺🏻

Deadly to be part of @goolwalgoolwal @bigsound 2026!

A big thank you to @qmusicnetwork for hosting us at the Triple A Radio House Residency. It was deadly to yarn with Elders, First Nations artists, broadcasters, creatives and the broader music industry, sharing stories, knowledge, music and community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a yarn and helped make the Residency such a special space including: Uncle @joegeia_music, Uncle @rogerknoxwarrior, @denni_madampakana, @kobiedee47, @riah_alone, and everyone else who came through.

BIGSOUND… what a journey. 🖤💛❤️

A little late with this one, but we’ve been taking some time to come back down after a massive week at @bigsound 🎶

BIGSOUND @goolwalgoolwal THANK YOU for such an epic opportunity and for giving Djawarray and Mayi Wunba the space to share what we bring from the rainforests of Far North Queensland 👣

It was such an honour to be there to perform, connect with mob and other artists, sit down and yarn with Elders, listen, learn, laugh and share our music, dance, stories and culture 🔥🔥🔥

To everyone who came to our showcases, danced with us, cheered us on, stopped for a yarn, shared our posts and followed the journey, thank you ✊🏿

And to every single person and organisation who donated and helped us get there, we couldn’t have done it without you. You mob literally helped put us on that stage 🙏🏿

To the deadly team behind Djawarray and Mayi Wunba, the people who answer phones, send emails, organise, drive, carry gear, solve problems and show up at all hours of the day and night…none of this happens without you ♥️

To my band, thank you brothers and sisters. All those weekly rehearsals, the hours you put in, the travelling and the work behind the scenes. We did it 🎸⚡️

To Mayi Wunba, my family and our young ones coming through, I’m so proud we got to stand together and share culture on that stage 🔥👣🔥

And most of all, I acknowledge my old people who came before me and passed this knowledge down. We carry them with us wherever we go 🔥🔥🔥

We went to BIGSOUND not really knowing what doors might open. We came home with new connections, new friendships, plenty of yarns and a fire in the belly for what comes next.

From the rainforest of FNQ to BIGSOUND...

Thank you for walking alongside us.
