INCLUSIVE TUESDAYS💛

October Theme: Mental Health & Stigma Reduction

WHEN YOUR INNER VOICE BECOMES ABUSIVE

We talk about how other people speak to us.

But what about how you speak to yourself?

> “I’m not good enough.”
> “I always mess things up.”
> “Nobody really wants me.”
> “I’m a failure.”
> “I hate myself.”
> “I should be further in life by now.”

Sometimes the harshest voice in the room
is the one inside our own head.

And because nobody else can hear it, we may suffer with it silently.

But every thought is not a fact

💭 Inclusive Tuesday Reflection

Would you speak to someone you love
the way you speak to yourself?

If the answer is NO, perhaps it is time to challenge the voice.

NOTICE IT → QUESTION IT → REFRAME IT

Instead of: “I am a failure.”
Try: “Something didn't work out. That does not make me a failure.”

Instead of: “I'm not good enough.”
Try: “I am still learning, growing and becoming.”

💛 You don't have to fight that voice alone.

YouthMatterz is a safe space.
If your inner voice has become overwhelming, constantly critical or emotionally painful, reach out.

Book a confidential online counselling and wellness appointment with YouthMatterz.

The voice inside you should not become the place where you are harmed.

Tradition Should Protect Dignity

Tradition is meant to connect us to who we are; not diminish who we are becoming.
Our African heritage carries wisdom, identity, community and generations of knowledge.
But honouring tradition does not mean accepting everything simply because “that is how we have always done it.”
Some practices deserve to be preserved.
Others need to be questioned.
And some patterns need to be healed.
If a tradition humiliates, silences, excludes, abuses or takes away someone's dignity, we must have the courage to ask:
Is this truly honouring our people?
God created every person with dignity and worth.
We can honour our elders while still having honest conversations.
We can respect our culture while challenging harmful practices.
We can love where we come from while choosing a healthier future.
Healing does not mean rejecting our roots.
Sometimes healing means removing what is harmful so that what is beautiful can grow.
🌱 Let us pass on wisdom, not wounds.
🌱 Let us preserve culture, not harm.
🌱 Let us build communities where dignity is protected.
What tradition do you believe should be preserved and what harmful pattern should we have the courage to change?

What Does God Want Healed Through You?

Now let's move from “What do I need to achieve?” to “What might my generation be called to heal?”

Sometimes the pain we carry is not only personal. We may find ourselves confronting patterns that have travelled through families and generations.

Perhaps the question for this season is:

What does God want healed through you?

Is it…

The father wound or mother wound?
Rejection or abandonment?
Silence around pain and trauma?
Unhealthy ideas about masculinity or femininity?
Broken relationships?
Fear, shame or unforgiveness?
A pattern of absent parenting?
Poverty thinking or survival mentality?
The inability to express love and affection?
A cycle everyone has learned to call “normal”?

Maybe your assignment is not simply to survive what happened before you.

Maybe you are called to heal differently, parent differently, love differently, communicate differently, lead differently and build differently.

And healing does not mean dishonouring those who came before us. Sometimes understanding our roots allows us to have compassion for people who were themselves carrying wounds they never had the language, resources or opportunity to address.

🌱 You can honour your roots without reproducing every pattern in them.

This September, as we speak about Time, Eternity & the Generational Assignment, ask yourself:

What must end with me?
What must be healed through me?
What must be restored in me?
And what must begin with me?

Perhaps that is part of your generational assignment.

HEAL. GROW. BREAK THE CYCLE. PLANT DIFFERENTLY.

Because what God heals in you may eventually become healing through you.

🌱 SEPTEMBER: THE SPRING OF THINGS
A New Season. A New Beginning. A Return to the Roots.

September carries something powerful.

For us in the Southern Hemisphere, September announces Spring, the season when what looked dormant begins to live again. 🌱

For some cultures and traditions, this period also carries the symbolism of a new year, renewal and new beginnings.

Perhaps there is a message in the season:

Before there is fruit, there must be roots.
Before there is harvest, there must be planting.
Before we rise higher, we sometimes need to go deeper.

This September, I want us to go back to the genesis of things.

To ask deeper questions about:

TIME. ETERNITY. THE GENERATIONAL ASSIGNMENT.

What did we inherit?

What needs healing?

What cycles must end with us?

What wisdom must not be lost?

What are we called to build?

And what are we planting that generations we may never meet will one day harvest?

🌿 This is more than a new month.

It is an invitation to RESET. RENEW. REALIGN. REBUILD.

As Spring awakens the earth, may something awaken within us too.

May dormant dreams rise again.
May wounded places find healing.
May old cycles be broken.
May purpose become clearer.
May we remember our roots while having the courage to grow new branches.

Welcome to September. 🌱
Welcome to a new season.
Welcome to the Spring of Things.

Let us rise higher by going deeper.
