May is Mental Wellness Month Fam

I enjoy learning about the various facets of the amazing people I come into fellowship with. The idiosyncrasies, attributes & perspectives that contribute to our diverse thought is a beautiful prism to witness our world through. It serves as a positive catalyst for improvement in quality of life, access to opportunities & healthy interaction with each other. As we kick off mental wellness month let’s continue to celebrate our shared values & differences.

Through out the month of May we will be exploring numerous ways to support each other in achieving & maintaining healthy mental wellness on Mental Mondays. One of the first steps is to recognize & celebrate how each of us have a multitude of experiences that shape our thoughts. This fosters respect which can serve as a foundation for building trust. Let’s be present & empower each other! Let’s get it Kings 👑👑

Nu Collar Solutions, LLC Teen Life Coaching Services celebrates Black History Month

This week we are highlighting the trailblazing “Pioneer” of hip hop. As much as I would love for my home city of Philadelphia to be the birthplace of hip hop, it’s not☹. Hip hop was birthed in the Bronx, New York City during the 1970’s. Clive Campbell better known as “DJ Cool Herc” originally from Kingston, Jamaica lived at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx. He hosted a “Back to School Jam” on August 11, 1973, in his apartment building at the aforementioned address. During this party DJ Cool Herc used the two-turntable set up to isolate the instrumental portion of records that extended the “drumbeat” or the “breakbeat”. This part of the song was a favorite of the dancers so making it longer was a bonus. Cool Herc would later coin the terms break boys (b-boys )& break girls (b-girls) to refer to the dancers. He would also rhyme while deejaying which he did at the historical “Back to School Jam”. His rhyming gave way to the role of the “emcee”. This innovative foundation would serve as the blueprint for hip hop acts that would follow. Cool Herc is the “Father of Hip Hop”!

For more information, please check out DJ Kool Herc’s website: https://www.djkoolherc.com/
