Indie or traditional? @authorchelseacurto does both. She spoke about going from doing every job herself as an indie author to having a team behind her.

She also explains why finding an agent isn’t just about getting signed. It’s about finding someone you trust to tell you when something isn’t working, and who’s aligned with what you want from your career. For Chelsea, that meant seeing her books in bookshops and reaching a bigger audience.

Even when three people were reading my book, I had gratitude.”

This week on The Conversation, romance author @authorchelseacurto talks about holding on to gratitude at every stage of a writing career. That means the early days, when almost nobody is reading, as much as the moments when the readers start finding you.

If you’re a writer still waiting for your audience to arrive, this one’s for you. Every reader counts, and so does every book you finish.

We also talk about her writing journey, building a readership and what keeps her going.

In Stormy Weather

When lightning strikes, things are bound to get steamy . . .

Nothing can rain on Quincy Monroe’s parade. She’s a woman in STEM with a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, the host of a successful online weather show, and has one million followers on her meteorology Instagram.

Quincy has spent endless hours forging her path in this male-dominated field, becoming one of the best in the industry. And with a new job opportunity, nothing can derail her success. Except for the ill-timed arrival of Sebastian Dunn.

Sebastian is her best friend’s brother, her long-suffering academic and professional rival, and a flashy TV weatherman from New York City that everyone swoons over. Everyone but Quincy.

Over a scorching Florida summer and record-breaking hurricane season, Sebastian and Quincy are forced into close proximity. Setting aside their grudges to chase storms and stay alive is one thing, but can they weather the inevitable collision of their hearts?

Last Friday I took part in #woolwichcentrelibrary @greenwichlibs Black History Month event for Black Women crime writers. I, along with @stellaoni_official and Nadine Matheson @queennads spoke about the many joys and the few challenges of being a crime writer today in front of an interactive audience, some of whom are in the photos with us. Special thanks to Sam Oparinde and the rest of the Library crew for putting this on.

🧁🍫National Chocolate Cupcake Day🍫🧁

Happy Sunday😍

Yes, yet another random one for you National Chocolate Cupcake Day I mean really… 🤦🏻‍♀️ but it’s a good excuse for a stack and a cupcake albeit a very sweet one. No spelling just some brown books I own:

Nobody Deserves This @andycallahanwriter (tbr)
Wild Dark Shore @charlottemcconaghy
Dark Fire by C.J. Sansom
Nowhere To Be Found @louisascarrwriter (tbr)
Fever The Bone by Val McDermid
The Kingmaker’s Daughter @philippagregorybooks
The Binding Room @queennads (tbr)
Dissolution by C.J. Sansom
The King’s Curse @philippagregorybooks

Question, are you getting bored of these random day stacks yet?
Only three on my tbr today, how about you?

BTW – I took this pic, went downstairs to ask my son his opinion and when I came back upstairs a small furry four legged cupcake was licking her lips…. So I think she had a sneaky little lick of the icing…🐶🐾

Nadine Matheson is a writer and former criminal defence lawyer. Her crime writing career began when she won the City University/PFD Agency crime writing competition in 2016. She’s the author of the Inspector Anjelica Henley series, a police procedural set in South-East London that began with her bestselling debut, The Jigsaw Man.

The third novel in the series, The Kill List, was longlisted for the Theakston Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year award and the fourth book in the series, The Shadow Carver, is out now. She’s currently working on her first standalone novel, Once a Liar, which will be published next summer.

Nadine is the current chair of the Crime Writers Association and host of ‘The Conversation with Nadine Matheson Podcast’ where she sits down with fellow authors to talk about books, writing and everything in between. Nadine hasn’t left the world of law behind and teaches criminal law and advocacy to the lawyers of tomorrow.

When she isn’t writing, you’ll find her cheering on Crystal Palace FC ( she is very South London and Proud) and travelling to Grenada, whenever she can.

I always tell my guests that our conversation may go off on a tangent and that’s exactly what happened here 😅

@rebecca_spargo said people fascinate her so much she should’ve been a psychologist. So naturally I dragged her into my obsession with @couplestherapyshowtime on BBC Two 📺

If you haven’t seen it, a New York therapist does couples therapy on camera. And the thing that hooked me? 😳

One side of the story will have you giving ALL the blame. The other side flips everything.

Rebecca was right, people are fascinating. And we are all the heroes of our own stories.
