Hi 👋. Just wanted to provide an update here. Unfortunately, with the coronavirus pandemic I will be suspending my weekly free New York event list until further notice.

The @cdcgov is now advising against gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks, which would technically make this date Sunday, 5/10/20.

In addition, @nycmayor @billdeblasio signed an Executive Order limiting restaurants, bars and cafes to food take-out and delivery. Nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses and concert venues must all close starting Tuesday, 3/17/20.

It makes me sad since I originally started this blog to connect the dots between money and travel. Through the free weekly NYC event list, I wanted to show that people can save on everyday things, such as fitness classes, food, and panels by going to free events instead of “paid events.” Thus, you can use the money saved from paid events instead towards a travel budget.

To expand the travel budget further, I wanted to show through travel hacking that people can get free/discounted flights and hotels. And yes, this explains why I have been traveling at least once a month for the past 9 months 😀. As much as I love finding travel deals, I would move along with the side of caution due to the possibility of canceled flights and quarantine. However, if you must, please try to book something “refundable,” and to monitor the coronavirus in the area of your destination closely.

Just keep in mind that the virus does spread quickly and that the healthcare system and community can easily get more swamped. Anything can be subject to change.

I will still continue to find money tips, and possibly more virtual events (besides free fitness apps), so please stay tuned! And yes, you can technically use the money tips towards a future travel trip, once everything calms down.
In the meantime, please consider social distance, wash your hands, and to take any necessary precautions. Until next time🌎. #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #nycblog #nycbloggers #nycblogger #freenyc #nycfree #thingstodoinnyc #nycpopup  #coronavirus #COVID19 #COVID #globalhealth #coronavirusnews #coronavirus2020 #publichealth #quarantine #outbreak

HEY, ARE YOU 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 RIGHT NOW? Opportunity is on the line & she wants to talk to you!☎️ {#swipeleft👈🏼}

I've been paying my own phone bill for the past few years. After a lot of research, I found a plan that would be incredibly cheap ($360 for the whole year!) without sacrificing quality of service. But apparently there's a way to get it even cheaper starting tomorrow: I'm talking FREE99!
.
THAT'S RIGHT. @mintmobile is currently giving free 3-month plans to new customers starting February 2nd because #freeisbetter 🤷‍♀️ This isn't a giveaway, this isn't sponsored (although that would have been appreciated 🙃), this is just a really great opportunity! Please let me know if you have any questions about the service - I'm an open (phone)book 📖 Comment below if you're interested & I'll DM you their signup link!👇🏼

Did you know "Auld Lang Syne" translates roughly to "old long bills to pay"? 💸No wonder it's sung outside Times Square after the ball drops - such a bummer all these bills follow us into the New Year!🤣 Received requests for #NYEinNYC #OnABudget tips, so let's dive in:
.
✨ Shop your closet for a NYE look - I usually just wear black + something irridescent 😅 I don't believe in buying clothes for single use, even if it's "cheap" - it's not sustainable or practical. 🔀 You can also ask a friend if you can borrow or swap a piece!
.
🎇 Personal fave: watch fireworks from an apartment rooftop
.
🎊 I've hosted NYE parties & potluck dinners and now prefer life as an attendee 🙈
.
🥂 Biggest regret: getting invited to watch the ball drop from the VIP section inside but already had plans to host my own party. I might never get that opportunity again. Say yes to weird NYC opportunities!
.
🍾 Apologies to all the friends who have invited me to #NYE prix fixe dinners, getaway cabins, & ticketed DJ parties through the years. I've turned you all down yet you have loved me anyway. (it gets easier when they know me as #brokeinnewyork 😉)
.
👇🏼 Check out my Stories to reflect on the year! What are you doing for #NYE or what was your favorite broke NYE experience?
