“People have 10,000 ideas a day and can’t execute one.” I learned pretty quickly that when Omotayo has an idea, he plans to execute it... A Black Fashion Week sounds good. An orchestral fashion show soundssss amazing. But there’s a big difference between having an ambitious idea and actually figuring out how to bring all of the pieces together to make it happen. So when @omosblack asked me to come on as Producer for Symphonies of Gold, Lord I knew this one was going to stretch me. Multiple designers, a 16 piece orchestra, over 50 models, 10 stylists, ballerinas, MUA's, hosts, activations, and a whole lot of moving pieces that somehow had to become one show in just a few months. Somewhere between the site visits, 25 plus whats app groups and group chats, countless meetings, spreadsheets, phone calls and more than a few “DID YOU READ MY EMAIL?!” ...WE GOT THERE. They say event producers are sadists, but we're really just addicts. 😂There’s something about watching a room fill up and seeing something that once only existed as an idea actually happening in real time that always produces adrenaline.. Omo, thank you for trusting me with your vision and, maybe more importantly, convincing me to say yes. 🌍🇿🇦 ONE YEAR AGO TODAY… DPM® LEAGUE WENT INTERNATIONAL. It’s crazy to think that this time last year, we were in Cape Town, South Africa, launching DPM® League internationally. 🥹 And even a year later, it’s hard to fully put into words what that experience meant to us. The beauty of the people. The nature. The food. The culture. The energy. The peace. And most importantly, the way so many dope individuals welcomed us into their home, their community and their space with open arms. We came together from opposite sides of the world and did exactly what DPM® League was created to do: PLAY. CONNECT. BUILD COMMUNITY. 🇿🇦 Team SA vs. 🇺🇸 Team USA. A little friendly pickleball competition that somehow got REAL competitive 😂 and yes, Team SA took the trophy home. 🏆🇿🇦 But the trophy was only a small piece of what we left behind. We left a piece of DPM® League in Cape Town, and Cape Town left an even bigger piece with us. You all will forever have a special place in our hearts because you were the beginning of our international story. You believed in us, championed us and cheered for us before so many people even knew what we were building. What started as an idea to bring dope people together through play has grown into something that is changing lives, creating community and giving people a place to belong, not only in Atlanta, Georgia, but around the world. And to think… Cape Town helped us prove just how far this vision could go. 🌍 Thank you for being our safe space. Thank you for being our peace. Thank you for welcoming us. Thank you for believing in us. And thank you for being our cheerleaders before we even had a crowd rooting for us. We cannot wait to return to Cape Town. And we definitely cannot wait to continue taking this thing around the world together. Cape Town, you weren’t just our first international stop. You became part of our story forever.
