Join us at the ImprovLab for the screening of Our Body Is An Expanding Star, a feature film that explores body, memory, landscape, family, and identity framed through the lens of two queer siblings. This gorgeous film illustrates the importance of connection through immensely beautiful compositions and animation. The screening will be co-presented and hosted by The Kween Company with an engaging event to follow. Pre Film: A 5-minute breathwork session centering our bodies from the outside world and into our own world. Post Film: Stars, gardens, expansion, and us - an anchored meditation and group reading. Semillites and Tania, two queer siblings bound by a powerful friendship, journey through the brown terrain of their own bodies - lands they once rejected. They traverse landscapes of skin, dreams and viscera, crossing into places that pulse with their ancestors’ memory and, along the way, encounter a constellation of flowers, grasshoppers and fossils. Through collage, animation, manifesto, dance and intimacy, the film moves across scales of body and territory, reimagining identity beyond Mexico’s colonial narratives. Our Body Is An Expanding Star Semillites Hernandez Velasco, Tania Hernandez Velasco ⋅ Mexico ⋅ 83 min ⋅ CAPTIONS Co-presented by The Kween Company In Partnership with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation Supported by DiverseWorksCo and Queer Night Out Time: 7:00pm Venue: The ImprovLab Tickets: $20/PWYW Event: Our body is an expanding star: Earth-Body-Home #GuelphFestivals #Documentary #LetsTalkDoc #Guelph

Looking forward to an upcoming workshop at @thegpag where I will be facilitating black out poetry techniques with lots of materials to try out! This space is dedicated for making art among fellow queer community, for free, and with a very easy going vibe that welcomes all skill and interest levels. The 13+ age range is a lovely opportunity for a multi generational experience as we express ourselves individually and as a collective (from my experience that’s been a very healing way to share and learn from one another). We will have snacks and lots of art materials, too! My good pal @forestfruit__ has put this together and is one of my favourite people to co-facilitate with. Highly recommend making it to this if you’re looking for more creative spaces for queer community in the Grimsby / Hamilton area. No registration is required so put a reminder in your calendar and we will see you there! 🌈📝

One of the best things about living in Guelph is how vibrant and welcoming queer spaces are. As a sometimes straight presenting queer woman in a long term partnership with a queer man and the Mom to queer, gender diverse kids, I am often having to assert my/our queerness. I feel like there are many less assumptions in Guelph and I get read less as a straight woman which is nice. The queer community in Guelph is welcoming and diverse. The work of @ootslibrary who celebrated the grand opening of their new space a couple of weeks ago and @queernightout_guelph who organized the Queer Service Providers fair last weekend at @10carden is seen and appreciated. I hope to do more as our multi generational (3) queer family deepens our roots here. And for all my friends not familiar with Guelph, come see for yourself what a warm and welcoming community this can be! *****And shout out to any other 2SLGBTQIA+ candidates running in this election! 🌈🏳️‍🌈💕🏳️‍⚧️⚧️
