Chimchar is the Fire-type starter Pokémon, inspired by a baby monkey and the Chinese legend of the fire monkey. It's pure energy. Its rear end is literally on fire—and it doesn't go out even when it sleeps. That flame on its tail is its emotion meter: if it's weak, the flame shrinks; if it's motivated, it burns brightly.
Before going to sleep, it extinguishes it itself to avoid starting a fire. What a responsible little guy. Although it seems adorable and mischievous, it hides a brutal potential. At level 14, it evolves into Monferno, and at level 36 into Infernape, one of the most beloved starters in the entire series for its Fire/Fighting combo and speed.
This Chimchar perfectly captures its essence: those big red eyes, the pose of a curious monkey ready to pounce, and that smile that says, "I'm going to lie, but you'll still love me." It's from the Sinnoh wave, highly sought after because the 4th generation starters are becoming increasingly popular. It's small, it's loud, it's impulsive... and that's why we love it. The perfect starter for those who have fire in their veins.
