My new album Bleachers to Stages is finally here... But let me tell you how it started.

On January 8th, 2024, I flew to Atlanta Georgia for 10 days to compete on Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow Season 2.

For years before that moment, I had been doing the work, releasing music, shooting videos, performing, but none of it felt real in a way that validated the bet I made on myself when I moved to LA. I felt like I was still in the bleachers. Watching the game, grinding, just trying to get in. Nothing had happened yet that made the dream feel tangible.

This was the first moment in my life where I felt like I was actually in the game. The opportunity was larger than life, and standing there I felt like I was supposed to be there, like it was my time. Even though I was nervous, I was confident because I felt like all the years of preparation were about to pay off.

In the second round, I was eliminated. I didn’t see it coming. When the show aired, I received thousands of comments, DMs, and tweets with people saying I got robbed and that I should have gone further. Things were heating up for a minute, and then just like that I was back to reality, back to the 9-to-5, back to the grind.

Around that same time I dropped The Odyssey, a reflection on moving to LA, ten years of grinding to find my voice, and wondering if the music was ever going to pan out.

But Bleachers to Stages is different. This is about what happens after you almost had it. The hunger to keep going when you have every reason to quit. I don’t have a backup plan. All I have is a love for the game and a passion to be great.

From the bleachers to the stages.

yours truly,

Cody Ray
