#MethodMonday **Speed Development**

Speed is a skill that must be taught, built, and strengthened. If you want your young athlete to get faster, focus on three core fundamentals:

• Force Production: Teach them how to push hard into the ground.

• Sprint Mechanics: Build clean, efficient body positions.

• Plyometrics: Develop bounce, stiffness, and explosive power.

Build the athletic foundation first—the speed will follow

If you’ve never witnessed a Powder Puff Football game, you are definitely missing out! Last night I photographed the game at Kettle Moraine High School where the Seniors outscored the Sophomores in the Championship game. The games were filled with high-energy, fast-moving excitement. These ladies go FULL SPEED and really put in maximum effort. A great way to enjoy school spirit during Homecoming Week at KM!!

Seated box jumps eliminate momentum and the stretch-shortening cycle, forcing athletes to develop pure, explosive concentric power from a dead stop.

✅️Concentric Force Development: Removes the downward dip (countermovement), training the muscles to generate maximum force with zero pre-loading momentum.

✅️Eliminates Bottom-End Weakness: Exposes the body to a mechanically disadvantaged starting position, building strength where athletes are typically least explosive.

✅️Improves Acceleration: Translates directly to the first few steps of a sprint by teaching the nervous system how to apply force instantly on demand.

✅️Low Joint Stress: Allows for high-power training output without the high-impact eccentric landing strain of continuous plyometrics.
