Are these rocks big enough? 😅

The Black Flag section at the @moabhardenduro had no shortage of massive boulders, which made for a perfect final section of each lap this past Spring 💯

🥉 Pro Overall — Mark Fortner

Mark Fortner rounded out the Pro podium at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series after a strong, steady ride through constantly changing conditions at Lightning Strikes.

Fortner briefly found himself at the front early before a mistake in a creek section dropped him back to fourth. From there, he settled in, caught Coran Calvert, and eventually made the move for third at one of the race’s signature obstacles — “The Wall.”

“I think on ‘The Wall,’ the big rock splatter is where I got past Coran. He tried it and fell down. I tried it and barely made it over it.”

As the rain continued, the rock sections stayed relatively predictable, but the dirt hills became much more difficult and required more effort with every lap.

Fortner kept pushing all the way to the finish, holding third and putting together another strong result in the Pro class.

Hear Mark talk about the battle for the podium, the changing traction, and what it took to make it to the finish at Lightning Raceway.

🥈 Pro Overall — Maverik Thaxton

Maverik Thaxton led much of the Pro race at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series, ultimately finishing second after a late battle with Hayden Mosa at Lightning Strikes.

After washing out in the opening corner, Thaxton recovered quickly and worked his way to the front. From there, he and Mosa spent much of the race playing what Maverik described as “cat and mouse,” with the gap stretching out before Mosa would reel him back in.

A second round of rain late in the race changed everything. The hard-packed trails became increasingly slick, and on the final lap, Thaxton slid off a technical off-camber Pro split. While he worked to recover, Mosa closed in and made the pass for the lead.

Despite missing out on the win, Maverik’s runner-up finish was enough to move him into the Ohio Hard Enduro championship points lead with one round remaining.

“It feels good to take the overall lead. Definitely happy to have that one.”

Hear Maverik break down the changing conditions, his race-long battle with Hayden, and what it means to head into the finale leading the championship.

🏆 Pro Overall Winner — Hayden Mosa

In just his second race back from injury, Hayden Mosa returned to the top step with a hard-fought Pro victory at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series.

His race started about as badly as it could have. After getting caught up in the first-turn chaos, Hayden entered the woods near the back of the field and had to work his way forward through the slick conditions at Lightning Strikes.

By halfway through the opening lap, he was already up to second and began chipping away at Maverik Thaxton’s lead. Even a hard crash on “The Wall” that damaged his throttle couldn’t stop his charge.

When another shower made the course even slicker late in the race, Hayden kept pushing. On the final lap, he caught Thaxton on a treacherous off-camber Pro split and made the pass for the lead.

After everything it took to get back to racing, this one carried extra weight.

“This win means the world to me.”

Hear Hayden talk about the comeback, the battle for the lead, and what it meant to earn the win in only his second race back from injury.

🏅 4th Amateur Overall - Cory King

Cory King finished fourth overall in the amateur race at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series at Lightning Strikes, navigating a fast, flowing course that played a little differently than some of the more technical rounds this season.

King admitted the higher-speed terrain pushed him outside his comfort zone, but he stayed consistent as the course evolved throughout the three-hour race.

“It was super fast; not really any hard stuff at this one. I felt like I couldn’t ride the bike. It was nothing but pebbles and single-track and some logging roads.”

As the laps added up, traffic cleared loose rocks from the trail and opened new lines around the tougher hillclimbs, making the course faster as the race progressed.

Despite preferring more technical terrain, Cory kept it together to finish fourth overall and remain firmly in the Amateur championship fight heading into the season finale.

Hear Cory break down his race at Lightning Raceway and what made Round 6 a different kind of challenge.

🥉 Amateur Overall — Cory Jones

Cory Jones rounded out the amateur overall podium at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series after a strong start at Lightning Strikes.

Jones said his opening two laps went smoothly, but the race became much more difficult on lap three. Traffic, deteriorating conditions, and a loop-out in a creek cost him time and energy, allowing Graham Kobak to move past.

“The uphill rocks, dealing with lappers, and then how nasty and slimy it was, you had to find different lines as the day went on.”

By the final lap, Cory was focused on getting to the finish as the course continued to break down and passing opportunities became harder to find.

Hear Cory talk about his race, the changing lines, and the challenge of managing traffic on his way to third overall at Lightning Raceway.

🏁 Amateur Overall Winner — Bentlee Bredekamp (@bentleebredekamp)

Bentlee Bredekamp came away with the amateur overall victory at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series at Lightning Strikes — and with it, took control of two championship battles heading into the season finale.

The win moved Bentlee into the overall Amateur championship lead by just three points over Cory King, while also extending his advantage in the B class standings to 37 points over Graham Kobak.

Calling the Lightning Strikes course one of his favorites of the season, Bentlee put his harescramble and motocross background to work on the fast, flowing sections and found places to make time when the terrain turned technical.

Even a crash on Chicken Hill couldn’t stop him. After his throttle came loose, Bentlee improvised with a rock to get it back into place and kept charging.

“I think there was a slippery rock garden that I could ride well where I was able to pull away from Graham.”

Hear more from Bentlee about his race, the course conditions, and what it took to leave Lightning Raceway with the win and two championship leads.

🥈 Amateur Overall — Graham Kobak

Graham Kobak battled through more than just the course at Lightning Strikes to finish second overall in the amateur race at Round 6 of the Ohio Hard Enduro Championship Series.

After dealing with arm pump early, Graham ditched a too-tight brace band and found his rhythm. A loose triple-clamp bolt and a backward flip off Chicken Hill added to the challenge, leaving him to finish the final lap with bent-up handlebars.

“The course was set up awesome. It might be one of my favorite courses of the season.”

Despite the issues, Graham kept pushing to secure runner-up honors and remains second in the B class championship, 37 points behind Bentlee Bredekamp with one round remaining.

Hear Graham break down his race at Lightning Raceway and what he’s taking away from the penultimate round of the season.
