One of the biggest skills in putting is returning the face at impact where you want the ball to start. 90-93% of start line on a putt is determined by where the face is at impact

When knowing that, does path really matter? Honestly, not really if you’re good at returning the face square

I’m not saying we should all have crazy path. I think a more manageable path will be easier to control the face. But ultimately the skill that matters is returning the face square

Thoughts on this??

GREEN READING - HOW IS YOUR VISUALIZATION?

A lot of players like seeing the ball go in, but what if the slope you’ve picked doesn’t match what the ball is getting ready to do?

One of the things I’ve been able to help players see and understand using the @quinticgolf Overhead Putt Tracker is entry point.

If a player is seeing the ball tracking into the hole from a direction or entering a window that doesn’t match the slope and green speed, it can cause some conflict with, you guessed it, matching speed and line.

A pattern that you might notice if this is an issue is putts hit with good speed (6-18” past the cup) end up missing high and are complimented by putts that tend to die into or come up just barely short.

If you’re seeing inconsistency that falls in this category, just ask yourself how that might be happening. #PrestonsPutting #AimPoint #golftips #GolfDigest #Putting @zengreenstage

Great session with Tour Professional @hill_arron as we refine the details ahead of @dpworldtour Q School Second Stage.

An intensive, data-led session focused on calibration, baseline testing and tempo, with particular attention on uphill performance. We identified the key variables, established clear benchmarks and took the work onto the course to assess transfer under playing conditions.

Measure. Refine. Transfer.

Great work, pal. 👊

Great session with @fifalaopakdee yesterday afternoon working on his putting! A few simple setup adjustments helped improve his control of the stroke arc. We then headed outside to work on aim, green reading, and speed control. I was really impressed with how quickly everything started to dial in.

He’s gearing up to defend his 2025 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship title in just a couple of weeks. Excited to see him compete again!

I got fit for Rory’s Putter!

I went into the TaylorMade Putting Experience at Naas Golf Club with one putter. I left with a whole new level of confidence in my setup.

Here’s how it went down 👇
🎯 First up, a 30 minute putting clinic with @shaneleegolf Eye opening, with some brilliant insights into my putting setup & aim and things I can work on immediately.

📍 Then came the fitting. We started with my gamer, checking my alignment, where I aim and my stroke tendencies.

📊 @quinticgolf data gave us the numbers behind my putting.

🔧 Using a fully adjustable putter, we dialled in length, lie and loft before Bradley Rowntree fitted me into the TaylorMade Spider X, based on my aim and stroke bias.

🕷️ What was I fit into? The Rory Torched finish Spider X. Clean look, confidence at address, with added mass to optimise my stroke and get the ball roll more efficient.

📏 A bit of string line work, then back on Quintic to compare both putters head to head.

📈 The result? More consistent launch and ball speed, with the ball getting into its true roll 5 to 6 inches sooner than with my gamer.

🔩 But here’s the bit that blew me away. Once the fitting was complete, the TaylorMade team built my custom spec Spider X on site. Seeing the putter go from fitting measurements to a finished club, built specifically for me, was incredible.

The truth, and the gains, are in the data. When you see the numbers, it really is a no brainer.

Huge thanks to @garth.boyd, @gearyfrank, @bradleyrowntree and @tickleelliot from @taylormade_tour for making it happen.

And to @bernardquigley, @ryangribbengolf and @shaneleegolf at @naasgolfproshop for putting on a brilliant experience from start to finish.

Now, let’s see what this Spider X can do on the course. 🕷️

GREEN READING - HOW EXACT DO YOU NEED TO BE?

Everyone wants to know how precise does your ability to feel slope need to be to be have a chance to make the putt. It’s a good-news-bad-news scenario. Let’s start with the good.

In testing, playing a 2% slope worked well for putts ranging from 1.5-2.3%. That’s a healthy range of slopes that you can play 2% and the putt still works out. That should be comforting.

Now for the bad news. You need good speed for any of this to matter.

But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel! The range of ball speeds at the hole range from 1.1-1.3mph. That window is a very acceptable with putts finishing roughly 6-18 past the cup.

So, for all of you players new to green reading or ESPECIALLY the ones who have said they can’t be exact enough… Relax. Give it another go. And know you have some room.

As for the lip out, the 1.1mph ball speed on the 2.3% slope doesn’t work out. Sometimes good putts just don’t go in. Welcome to golf.

Welcome to strategies to putt better. #PrestonsPutting

Great catch-up with professional golfer @jackfrancesgolf ✅

A big focus on green reading and matching speed to the intended line.

There are many ways to read a green, but ultimately the goal is finding a process that the he is comfortable with — and one that consistently produces the best result.

For us, a big part of the session was mapping the read, understanding the amount of curve required, and then using the right tools to connect that read with the speed needed to execute.

Great work, mate. 👊
