Who gives us permission to create, speak, and express ourselves? 🤔🤔

From childhood, we learn to seek permission from others. For women, these expectations are often reinforced by social and cultural structures that reward compliance and discourage self-expression.

At the Empowering Women Summit, @tamara.protassow.writes will explore these deeply internalised patterns in her session,

✨Creativity and Clashing Cultures: The Ins and Outs of Permission.✨

Drawing on feminist thinking and creative practice, Tamara will examine how external validation can constrain our creative lives, and how we might reclaim the authority to write, make art, express unpopular opinions, and pursue what matters to us.

Tamara is a creativity mentor, non-fiction writing coach and former book editor who has worked with more than 60 authors. She is also a founding member and Vice Chair of the Dandenong Ranges Literary Festival.

Join Tamara for a thought-provoking exploration of creativity, conditioning and the freedom to give ourselves permission.

Have you checked out @jaydeepitcaithly exhibition ‘Chain of Command’ currently showing @qvwc_melbourne 🚲 💐 🖼️

Chain of Command is an exhibition celebrating the strength and resilience of female cyclists. A passion project by local artist and bike enthusiast Jay-Dee Pitcaithly, combining her deep love of cycling, photography and painting.
What started as a creative project quickly became something much bigger, a celebration of the people, experiences and communities that make cycling so special. This exhibition is a reflection of the women who continue to break barriers, build community and show up for themselves and others every day.

Art prints of Jay Dee’s original paintings are available for purchase at @qvwc_shop

✨You’ve outgrown your old self. Now what?✨

What happens when the roles, ambitions and expectations that once defined us no longer reflect who we are becoming?

Periods of change can bring possibility, but also uncertainty. Particularly when we’ve invested years building a career, an identity or a particular version of success.

At the Empowering Women Summit 2026, Katherine Gokavi-Whaley brings a thoughtful perspective to these moments of transition.

A former CEO and COO, and founder of @she_leadscoaching , Katherine works with women navigating change, complexity and the evolving demands of leadership.

In her presentation, You’ve Outgrown Your Old Self, Now What?, Katherine will explore what it means to recognise when we’ve outgrown an earlier version of ourselves, reconsider what matters and move forward with greater clarity and intention.

See Me See Us: Black Joy In Fashion is back for three nights at @melbfashionweek — and this year we’re going deeper. We’re not here to talk about barriers. We’re here to talk about brilliance. 🖤

19 Oct | THE AMPLIFIERS — the creators, hosts and platform-builders putting Black fashion in front of the world.
20 Oct | THE MUSES — the models redefining who gets to be the face of Australian fashion.
21 Oct | THE SCULPTORS — the hands behind the look. Hair, jewellery, custom design, barbering.

📍 Queen Victoria Women’s Centre, Naarm/Melbourne
🕡 6:30pm – 9:00pm each night

Three nights. Three conversations. One room where we don’t have to explain ourselves.

Tickets in bio — swipe for the lineup 👀

Night 1 — The Amplifiers (Mon 19 Oct)

They built the platforms. They set the tone. They made sure we weren’t a footnote. 🖤

Night one of See Me See Us is THE AMPLIFIERS — the hosts, creators and culture-builders who decide what gets seen and who gets celebrated.

On the panel: @milohartill , @whoisbappy and @ziora.au .
Moderated by @lydiatesema .

🗓 Monday 19 October
🕡 6:30pm – 9:00pm
📍 Queen Victoria Women’s Centre

Come for the panel. Stay for the room. Link in bio.

Night 2 — The Muses (Tue 20 Oct)

Being the face of something is never just about the face. 🖤

Night two is THE MUSES — the models changing who Australian fashion puts in front of a camera, and what it costs to be the one they chose.

On the panel: @justb_curvemodel , @dunyazworld and
@bernad_ngendakumana .
Moderated by @mandykesebonye .

🗓 Tuesday 20 October
🕡 6:30pm – 9:00pm
📍 Queen Victoria Women’s Centre

This is the conversation the campaigns never show you. Tickets in bio.

Night 3 — The Sculptors (Wed 21 Oct)

Before the runway, there’s a chair, a workbench and a pair of hands. 🖤

We close with THE SCULPTORS — the hair stylists, jewellers, barbers and custom designers who build the look from the ground up.

On the panel: Blen Birbersa of @houseofblen , Ella Badu of @asikajewellery , and Dominic Mugari of @createdbydominic
Moderated by Adelide Mutinda.

🗓 Wednesday 21 October
🕡 6:30pm – 9:00pm
📍 Queen Victoria Women’s Centre

Last night of the series. Don’t let this be the one you hear

Incredibly busy month or so since I’ve been back from Europe. Did a caption for each photo so get excited for my thoughts. Basically we love busy.

How do we discover what we’re really capable of?

At the Empowering Women Summit 2026, three remarkable endurance athletes ~ Maria Dietrich, Karyn Fitts and Esther McConnell ~ come together for a conversation about courage, adversity, determination and possibility.

We’ll explore the psychology of endurance, how we respond when things become difficult, the relationship between discomfort and perceived limits, and what these experiences can teach us.

Three incredible women. Three different journeys. Plenty to talk about!
