Tonight at The Back Pew, in the middle of Bryan Adamsโ€™ Summer of โ€™69 playing in the background, we landed on a truth that comparison creates problems we donโ€™t need. And these phones make it so easy to bring us in that trap. In Matthew 20, Jesus tells a story about workers who all received the same pay check. Some worked all day, some worked an hour. The ones who were upset werenโ€™t treated unfairly, they took the job knowing the pay. The problem was they couldnโ€™t stand seeing someone else receive generosity too. All of us at the table admitted we do the same more than weโ€™d like to admit. Like the pay checks, Godโ€™s grace for someone else isnโ€™t something to be jealous of. None of us earned it, Jesus paid it all. Thatโ€™s what makes it grace. We talked about gratitude instead of comparison. Celebrating other peopleโ€™s wins instead of measuring our own. Recognizing Godโ€™s work in someone elseโ€™s life without wondering why our story looks differentโ€ฆ Even the folks who may not recognize that God has blessed them. It ainโ€™t easy.. It ainโ€™t fair. Thank God that His grace isnโ€™t fair, otherwise none of us would get it. No matter if weโ€™ve been people of faith for a long time or we just started walking in it, we all get the same grace. May we be the kind of people who celebrate that. God has given us some of the best days of our lives and we look forward to what He has for us next. Come, sit, and see.
