Gas prices. Flight costs. Food. Hotel. Ammo. I get it. Everything is getting more and more expensive to go train. But what are the real costs of NOT training?

Are you good or have you just been lucky? When you’re playing professional hide and go seek with bad guys isn’t the time to figure out which one you are. Untested or unopposed tactics are just theory.

The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy’s not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable. Sun Tzu

@ra.tactics is dropping knowledge. Vet your instructors. Test your people. Stay dangerous. Be a professional.

🇺🇸 THANK YOU FOR MAKING MTOA 2026 A SUCCESS

The 2026 Michigan Tactical Officers Association Training Conference was an incredible week of learning, networking, and professional development. We want to extend our sincere gratitude to every attendee, instructor, sponsor, vendor, and agency that helped make this year’s conference a success.

Your commitment to training, collaboration, and excellence strengthens the tactical community and enhances our collective ability to serve and protect our communities.

From the classroom to the range, the exchange of knowledge, experience, and lessons learned continues to move our profession forward. The relationships built and reinforced throughout the week are just as valuable as the training itself.

Thank you for investing in your teams, your agencies, and the future of tactical operations. We are honored to be part of such a dedicated and professional community.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Ahh, the @ra.tactics Humbler Drill strikes again! 😂
Even more challenging with a subcompact pistol and a pocket reload from a California-approved handgun.
Yeah, yeah... excuses, excuses. But one thing worth pointing out is that the California-compliant Shield’s magazine disconnect prevents the mags from dropping free like they do on most pistols. Instead of hitting the release and letting gravity do the work, you have to physically rip the magazine out before inserting the next one. You’ll actually see that happen in the video.
That said, that’s exactly why it’s important to train with your actual carry gun. Small pistols are harder to shoot, harder to manipulate, and often come with quirks that your full-size range guns don’t have. If a subcompact is what you carry every day, make sure you’re putting real reps in with it—not just the guns that are the most fun to shoot.

Conference instructing isn’t a paying gig but man does it pay in other ways. Getting to see folks I rarely get to see and the conversations with other instructors. Getting to see @ra.tactics more than once a year is cool and finally being in the same place as @fortitude_consulting a great breakfast conversation with @leo_combatives and dinner at the table with @gatewaydefense seeing @reston_group and @presscheckconsulting speak and being able to speak with them is always a good use of time in life as well. And a hookup with the home state homie @a_b_embry The intangibles at things like @indianaswat conference.
