The most exciting emerging designers aren’t creating new trends—they’re asking better questions.
In this edition of Next Gen / No Kill, three designers explore how fashion can carry memory, extend the life of materials, and imagine new relationships with the natural world.
🧶 Rachel Marino looks to the renovation of her childhood home, transforming unraveled sweaters, hand-spun fibers, natural dyes, and found buttons into garments that celebrate repair, history, and intentional making.
♻️ Marisa Sirichartchai braids discarded T-shirts into new textiles, challenging fashion’s obsession with newness while embracing longevity, versatility, and the beauty of evolution.
🪸 Xiaojing Gao responds to coral bleaching through bio-based materials, asking how fashion might move beyond minimizing harm to actively participating in ecological repair.
Three different practices. One shared belief: fashion has the power to preserve, restore, and reconnect.

Two emerging designers. One iconic reuse warehouse. A Fashion Week Brooklyn Editorial.
After presenting their collections on the Fashion Week Brooklyn runway, designers Mimi Weinstock and Rachel Ann Marino brought their work to Material for the Arts @materialforthearts , New York City’s sprawling creative reuse center, for an editorial that explores fashion in a different context.
Photographed among thousands of donated materials awaiting a second life, the shoot creates a striking visual conversation between fashion, creativity, and the value of what already exists.

Introducing Rachel Marino (FIT ‘26), one of the 20 emerging designers showcasing their work in the ‘26 BFA runway!

Rachel Marino’s collection “Faded Trails” reflects on the renovation of her childhood home, where objects, materials, and surfaces were uncovered and repaired, revealing layers of history. That same spirit of discovery carries into the collection through the unraveling of old sweaters, natural dyes, hand-spun fibers, and collected buttons. The work holds a sense of childlike joy, where memories become landmarks and the familiar feels new again through repair, reuse, and care. Guided by intention and a close connection to fiber, her knitwear becomes a living record of touch, time, and memory.
