Can we get a HELL YEAH for this stacked bill featuring @racheltoups from Moab, UT, as well as @amphibiandance and @cowboybaaaby from El Paso? COMMENT HELL YEAH / HEAVEN YEAH

Moab, Utah-based artist Rachel Toups is touring on the verge of their sophomore record 💿 softissue 💿 due 01/22/2027 via @anxietyblanketrecords. SOUND ON to hear the first taste (the album's closing track) "your heart, it pours". Combining a woodwind-like voice unafraid of challenging octaves and deft finger picking of occasionally unconventional guitar tunings, Toups weaves a sound that has been described as “a captivating mix of soothing and creepy.”

They are joined by #freakfolk El Paso staples 🐸 @amphibiandance and 🤠 @cowboybaaaby to make this a stacked bill for any folk lover.

As we launch our new short film “Sunglasses in the American Desert” into the festival circuit, we are reminded of the gratitude we hold for each person that helped make this project possible.

THANK YOU to the town of Moab, @filmmoab , and to every single person who brought this to life.

So excited to get this film out into the world, just wanted to say we wouldn’t be here without your help!

What a show! And what a crew! Some behind-the-scenes photos in order from strike yesterday to the shoebox set diorama I made in July. Enormous thanks to everyone who said Cowabunga! and jumped in to sew, paint, build, spray adhesive, engineer, fold programs, and tech this thing downstream. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world to have collaborated with you and I can’t wait to do it again.

ABR is excited to announce @racheltoups’ sophomore record “softissue” is out Friday, January 22nd! The first single “your heart, it pours” is now streaming wherever you find your music!

This collection of songs was written while Rachel was living and working in remote, isolated locations - where they grappled with how to place a small human life within the context of vast geologic and hydrologic features, forces, and timescales, and the interplay between silence and echo - the way the desert swallows sound, the way sandstone returns it, the way water carries it down the canyon, the way a forest soaks it up.

Many hands have made this project into something that’s so much more than it could’ve been on its own. Songs were written in solitude and isolation, yet they were only fully realized with the help of many friends. One of the key collaborators being @blywallentine, who took on the role of album doula.

Head to our bio for links to stream “your heart, it pours” and to pre-order a copy of “softissue” on vinyl :)

QUICK STORY: I have known @racheltoups since HS. She lived in Japan and I lived In S. Korea, but we connected during either Far East Drama or Choir, Far East was a division that brought students from DoD schools from around the region to compete in different activities (athletics, the Arts etc.). I’m probably using the wrong terminology/descriptors. It’s been a while 🫩

Anyway…the last time she and I had seen each other was my senior year during Far East Choir, I believe and the last time we were in touch was a little less than a year later via MYSPACE. Due to technical issues, I lost use of Myspace early, life happened and I couldn’t remember her last name, so years went by of me not having any way of contacting her despite wanting to reconnect.

Thirteen Years Later (2019), I’m living in South Central and pumping gas down the block from my apartment at a gas station I never go to. I get in my car and I am pulling off when, in my rearview, I notice the woman at the pump that was right behind mine looks an awful lot like Rachel. I can’t believe my eyes, so I nearly let her drive away before I say “screw it” hop out the car and approach her window. I know I looked like a weirdo at this point but that’s ok because fortunately, she recognized me right after I mentioned Japan and Far East. I was elated to have run into this woman again after all these years purely by chance. After reconnecting, I was fortunate enough to catch one of her very intimate live performances and that’s where I captured this footage.

Now, I’ve experienced a lot of amazing moments in my life but many of them still don’t match how crazy this one was for me. Rachel is a truly special person and a unique voice worth investing in and to this day, her music is a source of comfort for me. I’ll look forward to the day that I can listen to her perform in person again. Check her out when you have a chance. Her music is from another world… This one is titled “Foxes” from her album “Sundog”
