Layli Long Soldier returns to the show to discuss her latest remarkable poetry collection We (and/or Wé). We talk about these two connotations of we/wé, the questions of address, audience, identity and kinship implicit in them both. We explore the many visual art installations documented within We and how they intersect with both poetry and community. We explore what it means to treat a poem, not yet finished, as having its own desires and needs different than the poet's. You've heard of artist-in-residence, but what about elder-in-residence? A pilot program at Racing Magpie in Rapid City works with Lakota elders to share language and foodways ‘to honor them as cultural leaders.’ The residency program has kept older and younger people connected. “If this wasn’t happening, I would be sitting at home talking to myself. No, I’m just kidding. It’s really helpful for me, a lot of teaching from young people,” Dollie says. Racing Magpie's Rae Schad has advice for other organizations looking to follow suit with an elder-in-residence program: Ask your community what it wants to see. Learn more in our link in bio. The MdW coalition will present MdW Summit Detroit, bringing together 300+ artist organizations, culture workers, independent publishers, collectives, and artist-run spaces from across the Midwest for a week of exhibitions, public programs, workshops, print jams, drifts across the city, and more in a bonanza of regional coalition-building.  
Some of the Summit will be private to attendees, but there are several public events including opening receptions for Facing Present Dangers / Building Future Worlds at The Boyer Campbell Building, and States in Play at the College of Creative Study’s Valade Gallery as well as the Books & Multiples Fair, featuring dozens of orgs selling artist books, zines, prints, posters editions, and other artist-made objects. — Wednesday June 24 | 5-8 PM Sates in Play Opening Reception  @ Valade Family Gallery (A.
