While sitting on the sidelines waiting for good days to hunt, I like to think of new methods I could try for baiting bears. I’ve used bait cribs for three years, but in order to better understand other hunters and their methods, I’ll likely try running barrels in the upcoming seasons.

Barrels work off a lot of the same principles as my setup. Both have their own pros and cons, and the only way I’m going to fully appreciate the differences is by trying them myself instead of making assumptions. Maybe next year I’ll run barrels at a few different sites and see how they compare.

Regardless of the setup, I still think the simple stuff works best. You don’t need fancy gear or equipment to hunt bears. A lot of hunters only have a few days a week to get into the woods, and those weekend warriors know exactly what I’m talking about when tough weather and hunting conditions land on the only days you have available.

Sometimes you just have to work with what you’ve got and keep it simple. 🇨🇦
