✨ LMSA Member Spotlight ✨ Oscar Moreno-Lizarazo (M1) Oscar is a proud immigrant from Bogota, Colombia, who is passionate about social justice and health equity. While at the University of North Carolina, Oscar was a STEM mentor for “SOAR”, an organization focused on exposing Latine students to STEM careers and providing mentorship for them. He also participated in research that worked to elucidate the barriers that cause Latine children with autism to be underdiagnosed when compared to children of other ethnicities. This research was featured in Univision and La Noticia. Inside the clinic, he worked as a Spanish interpreter and navigator at UNC hospitals through the organization “Conexiones”. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Oscar was part of fundraisers through SOAR and Conexiones focused on addressing food insecurity impacting Latine communities and creating infographics in Spanish for at-risk populations. He hopes to continue being an advocate for marginalized populations during his time at HMS and beyond. When not studying Oscar enjoys listening to music, going out with friends, or playing instruments! He worked at a record shop during his gap year in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
