Some highlights from Day 2 of MANIFEST:IO ✨ There's not enough space on the carousel to encapsulate all the wonderful moments!

We started the morning with yoga before all our spaces were activated hosting talks and workshops! During the day and evening we had an exhibition and a series of performances, and a talk on care in artistic and cultural spaces. All dealing with ideas relating to the body - identity, perception, and migration.

In light of the censorship of my art piece addressing femicide by a notable venue during a historic event in Berlin, I’ve found myself compelled to confront the prevalent biases and abuses within the art world, driving me to advocate for the importance of care practices within the cultural sphere. At the new media symposium @manifest.io.berlin, I had the honor of exploring these issues in a talk and present my work, drawing from my experiences as both an artist and cultural manager. Alongside the esteemed and talented artist @ritaadib, we discussed the ongoing research conducted by our collective, @radicalcarelab.

Und wo ist jetzt das „Pflasterstein Paradise“? Wie Visionen und Geschichten einen Weg ins Paradies ebneten… Die Zeit fliegt und mit dieser dritten und vorerst letzten Ausgabe unserer künstlerischen Zeitung „PS: Pflasterstein Paradise“ endete die mehrmonatige produktive und ereignisreiche Projektzeit. Über drei Monate hinweg haben wir im letzten Sommer in und um unserer Redaktionszentrale auf der Hauptstraße in Pirmasens zahlreiche bewegende Aktionen erlebt, von denen in dieser Ausgabe berichtet wird. Auch wenn wir uns von „PS: Pflasterstein Paradise“ verabschiedet haben, sollte es weiter gewagt werden zu träumen und Visionen konkreter werden zu lassen. ✴️✳️At 19:00 on FEB 25 at MANIFEST:IO join us for an intimate talk on care in artistic and cultural spaces with @zlena_ and @ritaadib ✴️✳️
In this artist talk, we'll explore the idea that art spaces should prioritize care alongside creative expression. We'll discuss how artists contribute essential labor and why art spaces are collective endeavors, not favors. We’ll question the responsibilities of curators and space holders, contemplating their impact on the art world and society. Emphasizing that care begins with effective communication, this dialogue seeks to ignite a collective exchange of thoughts rather than present conclusive answers. This talk aims to spark a collective exchange, not provide answers. Let us collaboratively envision and construct art spaces grounded in care and mutual respect, actively shaping the future through open and inclusive dialogue.

Zarahlena is a Berlin-based Mexican-German transdisciplinary artist. Her artistic practice encompasses photography, performance art, and installation. By emphasizing embodiment through these mediums, her work acts as a platform for creative, spiritual, and social exploration, aiming to address the injustices and conflicts deeply rooted in the body. She examines issues such as feminicide and gender-based violence in Latin America; the disconnection between human beings and nature that leads to ecological crises; and the need for radical practices of care.

Rita Adib is an interdisciplinary artist and architect born and raised in Damascus, Syria. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in social and political activism addressing oppression, displacement, and borders particularly through the lens of intersectional discrimination.Informed by her background in architecture and sculpture, Rita's work probes the concept of public space, questioning its definition and accessibility, particularly within our hierarchical patriarchal systems. She designs interactive public instruments challenging conventional notions of engagement and the traditional art-audience correlation.

Past August, we organised the Summer school in Tbilisi in collaboration with @tbilisiarchitecturebiennial to explore public spaces and local inititatives in Tbilisi and d evaluate the outcomes of a two-year program reimgine your city aimed at reimagining urban environments. Here we share some of the insights from this inspiring journey.

We visited the Center of Contemporary Art @cca_tbilisi where Aleksi Soselia introduced participants to CCA's annual festival centred around the use and access to River Mtkvari, the city's main river. Afterwards, the participants could get the full experience by going to the river banks through a wooden ladder.

The group also explored another facet of the city, learning about the case study of Dighomi Meadows @dighomi_meadows a remarkable green space that sadly exemplifies environmental degradation in Georgia. The area is marred by extensive waste dumping and resource extraction, issues that authorities have largely overlooked in pursuit of economic development. This prioritization of economic growth has come at the expense of the environment, with industry frequently disregarding regulations for financial gain.

Last week we presented the Radical Care Lab in Tbilisi, Georgia at the closing round of @reimagineyourcity's Summer School, where the three of us were selected to participate along with other international artists, activists, urbanists and architects.

Sending out a lot of love and appreciation for these two amazing women. I am so grateful for the time we have had over the last two months, the places we have been, the conversations we have had, the spaces we have opened.
