For three decades, Lt. Friesen has poured her heart into serving our community. Reaching a 30-year milestone of leadership, integrity, and hard work is an extraordinary achievement, and we are profoundly grateful for her unwavering commitment. ❤️

Yesterday Commissioners and staff traveled 3,000 feet below the surface to tour Freeport-McMoRan's Henderson Mine. The Henderson operations are an important part of Grand County's economy, supporting our community, our schools and our workforce.

Every year, the mine produces about 18 million pounds of molybdenum, which is transferred to the Henderson mill by a 10-mile conveyor tunnel under the Continental Divide and an additional five-mile surface conveyor.
Like other common alloying elements, such as chromium and nickel, molybdenum additions give alloy steel and iron a combination of strength, toughness and wear resistance not possible with unalloyed steels. It is used extensively because its inclusion (alone or with other alloying metals) results in a more economical and serviceable part. Moreover, molybdenum makes a unique contribution to hot strength, corrosion resistance and toughness.

Special thanks to the mine staff who took time out of their day for demonstrations, and to answer our questions!
