UTLA members were proud to participate in the 80th annual East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade, celebrating our community and the power of education.

Together, we gave away more than 1,000 books to local families and students. A heartfelt thank you to all the UTLA members who volunteered and supported this effort, and to AFT for partnering with us to make the book donation possible.

The Lineage warehouse fire is yet another example of environmental racism facing working class communities and communities of color.

With 5 schools within one mile and more than a dozen within two miles, our students and educators deserve safe, healthy schools, not exposure to environmental hazards.

Lineage must be held accountable and pay for testing, cleanup, remediation, and restoration not our schools or taxpayers. And we demand that Lineage closes down permanently!!!

Safe schools are a right, not a privilege.

AK’s daughter doing a prayer dance for her Freedom. She is one of the 1st people in the US to be convicted of Cyberstalking for filming an ICE agent on a public street. She is now facing 5 years in prison. This case sets a dangerous precedent for every Rapid Responder, Community Observer or Bystander that films ICE in public.

AK is currently awaiting a final Ruling on a Motion to Acquit! It could come any day now. If she is not Acquitted she will go to sentencing in August. AK’s legal committee has secured one of the top Constitutional Law Attorneys in the US to represent her in Federal Appeals Court. He is one of the foremost experts on the Cyberstalking Statute. We hope it doesn’t come to that. But if it does we will be there to see her through. ✊🏽

Check back for updates.

We had the honor of being in the presence of the incomparable Dolores Huerta. Her words reminded us of the incredible work educators do day in and day out for our communities. She inspired us to keep organizing and having 1:1 conversations because when it comes to organizing, nothing happens by chance, everything happens with intentionality.

As we move into this campaign, we know we have to become as strong as possible for the fight ahead. Choosing your team matters, with Gloria Martinez at the head and a full slate of leaders committed to our students, families, and schools. And how do we make this happen? Organize, organize, organize.

The polls are open. Vote for EOP. Get Out the Vote 🗳💪🏽

Last Thursday the community marched from Boyle heights to Downtown LA, carrying the drum, singing the AIM song—honoring the American Indian Movement born in working-class Minneapolis in the 1960s. As their voices rose us, we remembered that the indigenous struggle continues for urban natives , whether in Los Angeles, Minnesota, or anywhere Indigenous peoples fight for self determination.
