2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣6️⃣: I went back to Havana — this time, as a reporter — to cover the death of Fidel Castro. There, I reconnected with one of my best friends who I thought I’d lost forever. I met members of my own family in Kingston, Jamaica for the first time while covering a hurricane. I was bicoastal and got to live in my favorite American city (Los Angeles). I covered a historic election in my home state that began a 10-year working relationship with my favorite producer. I worked one of many Christmases where my family came to stay with me — in my tiny apartment — just so I wouldn’t be alone. I went on lots of shitty dates and a couple of good ones. My best friends from home came to visit me and we drunkenly considered getting matching tattoos (we didn’t). I had an assignment for TODAY Show in Detroit, where an old college friend offered to meet me at the airport McDonalds for a McFlurry (he later became my husband).
