Being a kid from Mexico, our mother always made sure that living in the United States, our childhood was as normal as the kids at school. This meant decorating for every season or holiday. I even remember her on the roof of our home hanging Christmas lights, just so we had nothing but good memories growing up.

Decorating has a deeper meaning for me and it’s why I take every chance I get to do so. It reminds me of our mom, the joy and happiness it brought us.

Hopefully it brings some joy and happiness to you all!

Always viewed Arizona as a second home, it’s where Thanksgiving’s were spent with my Grandma, where all my Summers were spent with my cousins swimming and going to the theaters (I don’t mean watching a movie once a week I mean daily! Watching movies and accumulating AMC movie watcher points was sport in that house IYKYK). When Rafael passed I knew I wanted to do something for my Tia so I reached out to this amazing and talented Artist who had done a beautiful portrait of Jose’s cousin Larry that I had fallen in love with. When I commissioned this piece I shared Rafael’s story, pictures and his music giving the artist complete creative freedom. What can I say? She captured his spirit! His soul! When I saw this all I could say was “This is Rafael!” I love my cousins and I view them all like siblings. We all grew up together and overtime got busy and grew apart. Like most people now in days we stay connected through social media, watching our lives happen through posts, stories, reels and live feeds. Rafael was dealing with addiction but despite that I will always remember him as my cousin Rafael who is about to post another jam session on social media, my cousin Rafael who is going to Coachella this summer living his best life, simply MY COUSIN RAFAEL. We love you. We miss you.

My beautiful mother is no longer in ICU and in her own room. She’s currently sitting on the recliner watching HGTV. She has a long road to recovery, but we are all confident that it’ll be a full recovery! Thank you all for the heartfelt messages and for all your prayers. Happy 90 something birthday Nana!Not a day goes by that I don’t think to you.You were my only living grandparent that I ever known and that’s why you are so impactful. You were courageous, resilient, and a woman of faith. You were the epitome of a Mexican grandmother, so instead of being sad I’m going to continue to celebrate you! Te extraño y te amo mucho abuelita. ❤️ 👼🏼

Now I didn’t forget Mother’s Day yesterday, just forgot to post.... Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there, but especially the women in my life who keep me on my toes and essentially run my life. My mom, Rafaela Garcia and sisters!
