חַג פֶּסַח שָׂמֵחַ
The olive tree 🕊️ is one of the first plants to be mentioned in the Torah and is among the oldest species in the Levant. It has become a universal symbol of peace and hope, associated with the dove in the story of Noah’s ark signaling the end of the global flood and peace between G-d and man. We have added an olive to the Seder plate for yet another year because we know that for slavery to be truly over, for a people to be truly free, we must know that we can feed ourselves and our children, today, tomorrow, and into the following generations. In the lands of Israel and Palestine, olive groves provide this security. When olive groves are destroyed, the past and future is destroyed. Without economic security, a people can much more easily be conquered or enslaved.

The past 916 days in Gaza have reminded us of the horrors of that lack of security and we have watched the Palestinians’ future be destroyed. As Israel’s crimes against humanity have spread from Palestine to Lebanon to Syria to Yemen and now to Iran, my horror and distraught has deepened. What Israeli authorities have done in the name of Judaism is antithetical to all the teachings of the Torah and the story of the Passover Seder. The Jewish people know almost more than anyone what it is like to be enslaved, subjugated, expelled, and to be the victims of genocide. To perpetrate this same evil on the Palestinians and Arabs is worthy of eternal condemnation.

We eat this olive in sorrow, mindful that olive trees, the source of livelihood for many Palestinian farmers, are regularly chopped down, uprooted, and burned by Israeli settlers and authorities and to denounce the ongoing war in Gaza and throughout the Middle East waged in our name. 🫒☮️✡️

For 2025, Sam and I made a modern take on latkes by making them into bites and plating them in advance, similarly turning kugel from a casserole into muffin size. Blessed to share traditional foods from scratch and making our own new traditions together 🫂

Good bye San Francisco!
A collection of a few favorite memories and people from the beloved city

7 years ago I was a closeted, timid 22 year old who had just moved here. I came out right when I turned 25, overcame insecurities, grappled with a religious journey, experienced a couple relationships, heartbreak and heartbreak again, discovered the intimidation of being gay with the party, hookup and social culture that comes with it, dipped in (infamous?) startup culture, had friends that came and gone, friends I reunited with, invigorated my love for nature, conquered many of my biggest goals, and met some of the coolest life long companions that I look up to.

Closing this chapter means looking back at the man I was and celebrating the man I’ve become. San Francisco is where it all began and will always have a place in the center of my heart.

Fast forward to today, I’m in the city I’ve always wanted to live in and is perfect for this next chapter in my life. 7 years from now? Let’s hope we learn and grow just as much 👏
