POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It was a homecoming of sorts, stalking red stag in the Scottish homelands 360 years after my particular clan departed. Or maybe it was the warm and generous people who made it so familiar. Either way, an epic week with the keepers and ghillies of #kildermorieestate in Scotland’s high north. #leupoldoptics #browningfirearms #winchesterammunition

Three days and 1,000+ miles to watch this buck crest a little hill at sunrise.

A bit of Google sleuthing turned up the number for the local Hutterite colony secretary, who granted me passage with the magic words: “I supposed dat would be alright.”

I waited for the herd to wander over the hill a little more than 1,000 yards out, then crept in on hands and knees inching my way to the top of the hill. Poked my head up and discovered I’d crashed the party. Thirty-plus lopers, under 75 yards, all of us equally surprised. One quick offhand shot at the hay hook buck from about 70 yards and that was that.

Ten years of waiting for a Montana antelope tag, and now it’s my second notched tag of the season. Consider the western antelope derby completed.

Delightful critters. The drive time, however, is strictly for the birds

DAY 1 OF 3 // DUX EXPO

We’re kicking things off tomorrow at NOON, and we’ve got something fun planned.

The Cadillac Creek Scavenger Hunt is officially on!

Start at Booth 5020 (the CCO booth), grab the details, then visit all 13 of our industry partners. Snap a selfie at each booth wearing Cadillac Creek merch, post them to your Instagram Story, and tag @cadillaccreekoutfitters plus each partner.

The FIRST 20 people to complete the hunt will earn a spot in the drawing…

That’s a 1 in 20 chance to win a 2-Day Waterfowl Hunt with Cadillac Creek Outfitters!

Once you’ve completed all 13 booths, head back to Booth 5020 so we can verify your entry.

This is just Day 1. We’ve got something different planned for each day of the show, so be sure to stop by and follow along.

See y’all tomorrow at Booth 5020!

EP: 462 | The 16-Gauge

On this episode we’re joined by Rafe Nielsen of Browning to learn about the mysterious 16-gauge. It’s a great sized shotgun and many people swear by them but the 16 didn’t stay popular for many reasons. Why didn’t it take off? Is it still used much today? What sub-gauges are hunters currently choosing? We also learned some facts about Browning and also got some tips for introducing kids. It’s a fun show.

OUR PAL “SKIPPER”… When your optics sponsor comes to camp, and you can’t find him a bear, so your cook just builds him one! 🥴… 🤣

This guy is a beauty!!! A year ago the good people at @leupoldoptics flew us out to their headquarters in Oregon, for a long range shooting experience, which was AWESOME!

This was the first time I met Shawn Skipper in person. This gentleman swings a pretty big loop, on Leupold team… He was so much fun to be around, and you could tell he was just a good guy! Before the trip was over, I told Skipper about our bear camp, and I threw out the invite for him to come hunt bears with me.

As it turned out, Skipper booked a full week and brought his great friend Rafe Nielsen of @browningfirearms and two outdoor writers, @willbrantleyky and @muleycrazy89.

Leading up to this week, I was pressured up! I just wanted this adventure to go the very best it could. Leupold and Browning are two of the most prestigious, well respected brands in the hunting world, and somehow some way, we’re now with both teams/brands, which means the world to me.

Who knows how it went! Ha ha… I know we had a boat load of fun! We caught fish(Skipper broke the camp record for smallest catch EVERRR), we killed the buckle bear, and we made great new friendships and memories.

Grateful for this fine crew of gentlemen! 🙏

As usual, no 🐻 were harmed this spring. But I did get some cool photos of what I believe to be the ultimate do-all hunting rifle setup. Here’s to next year.
