Who heals the healers? At the 2026 IPA Convention, Orson Morrison, PsyD, and Rahul Sharma, PsyD, invited attendees to rethink wellness in their presentation, “Heal the Healers & Helpers: Embodied Approaches to Wellness.”

For those dedicated to supporting others, advocating for justice, and creating meaningful social change, burnout and emotional exhaustion can become all too familiar. But what if healing wasn’t something we had to do alone?

Drawing from The Embodied Healing Series, this presentation explored how culturally rooted practices—including movement, music, ancestral connection, and collective reflection—can foster resilience, belonging, and restoration.

By reframing healing as a collective and relational experience rather than an individual responsibility, this session challenged traditional approaches to wellness and highlighted the importance of community-centered care.

Thank you to our presenters for reminding us that caring for those who care for others is essential to sustaining meaningful change.

Our South Asian communities have always been diverse, complex, and evolving. Long before colonization, many South Asian societies recognized gender identities beyond the binary and made space for expansive understandings of gender.

Yet today, transgender, nonbinary, and genderqueer people often face stigma, exclusion, and misunderstanding within our own families and communities.

At a time when transphobia, anti-trans violence, and anti-trans legislation are on the rise, silence is political. Creating safety for transgender and gender-expansive people is not a passive process. It requires us to listen, learn, show up, and take responsibility for the communities we are building.

Join us on Friday, November 13, for a community conversation centering trans and genderqueer South Asian stories, safety, and belonging.

Together, we will hear from transgender, nonbinary, and genderqueer artists, practitioners, activists, and community leaders whose work reflects a deep commitment to justice, belonging, and collective care.

The evening will also include creative offerings rooted in storytelling, resistance, joy, and community.

Parents and educators, save these questions for a conversation with your students.

This is Part 4 of our “Back to School with #StandWithHer” series, sharing practical activities to help educators build more respectful classrooms.

Social media can strengthen connections and amplify positive change, but it can also affect our relationships and mental health. Discussing both sides helps students think critically about their online choices, consider how those choices affect others, and identify what they can do when they witness harm.

After the discussion, invite students to create their own guidelines for using social media safely, respectfully, and responsibly.

Find the full activity in our free Creating a Gender-Just World curriculum, inspired by the Oscar®-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger. Access it at the link in our bio (or comment GUIDE and we’ll send it to you).

What. A. Night.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the second annual SASM Summer Soirée! It was a very special evening, rooted in joy, connection, and community care.

This was a record-breaking turn out! We are all trying to hold steady during this period of uncertainty, pain, and injustice, and it was life-giving to gather with a community passionate about building a more just, inclusive, and liberated world.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us through the years, and to all who continue pushing forward the work of justice in ways big and small, every single day.

If this was was your first time coming to one of our events, please stay in touch! We will be sending out a follow up email to get your feedback.

The SASM team will be returning in the fall with new programming that we can’t wait to share. Until then, stay connected and stay rooted. ✊🏾

Wishing you a season full of rest, joy, renewal, and resistance.

With gratitude, The SASM Team

How would you answer this question?

One activity from our Creating a Gender-Just World curriculum invites students to explore what consent is (and just as importantly, what it isn’t) through guided discussion and real-world examples. The goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking critically, and learning that respect for one another’s boundaries is something we practice every day.

These conversations may seem small, but they’re part of something much bigger: helping young people build healthy relationships and imagine a future free from gender-based violence.

The full curriculum is available free through the link in our bio. Comment GUIDE and we’ll send it to you.

Parents and educators, save these questions for your students’ classroom.

This is Part 2 of our “Back to School with #StandWithHer” series, sharing practical activities to help educators build more respectful classrooms.

What makes a relationship “unhealthy”? Exploring scenarios involving hurtful comments, controlling behaviour, and sharing personal information without permission can help young people recognize warning signs, understand boundaries, and consider how they might respond or seek support.

Our free Creating a Gender-Just World curriculum, inspired by the Oscar®-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger, offers flexible lessons and discussion guides for middle school, high school, and college classrooms.

Access the full lesson at the link in our bio (or comment GUIDE and we’ll send it to you.)

In Pursuit of Belonging.

That’s the theme for our August edition of Pints & Perspectives, and it’s the question a lot of brown men are quietly carrying and rarely getting to name out loud.

Pints & Perspectives 🍻🧠 brings men together for honest conversations about mental health over a casual drink. No speeches, no pressure, just real stories, shared experiences, and space to be yourself.

This month we’re joined by two facilitators who don’t need much of an introduction around here: psychologist Dr. Rahul Sharma and licensed therapist Ankur Varma, LCPC. If you followed our first episode of Guys N’ Chai, you already know Rahul. This is your chance to be in the room with him.

🗓 Thursday, August 27
🕕 6:30 to 8:30 PM
📍 The Dandy Crown, 694 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago
🍺 First drink is on us before 7 PM

Free to attend. Registration keeps the space safe, welcoming, and aligned with our mission to break stigma and build community.

Link in bio to RSVP. Bring a friend who needs it.

Thank you @rahulsharmapsyd for joining us to lead this event!
