More Comprehensive Plan momentum in the works!

Following Cornwall’s adoption of its Comprehensive Plan, we’re excited to highlight another important step forward: West Shore passenger rail is also included in the final draft of Envision Rockland — Rockland County’s new Comprehensive Plan.

The plan specifically recommends: “Continue to support the concept of restoring passenger rail service on the West Shore Line.”

The public comment period and final public hearings have now concluded, and the County will next work toward formal adoption of the Comprehensive Plan.

Once adopted, a County-wide Comprehensive Plan establishes a long-term framework for a county’s future priorities and investments. Having West Shore passenger rail included means restoring passenger service is being recognized not simply as an advocacy proposal, but as part of Rockland County’s long-term transportation vision.

This builds on Rockland County’s previous support for studying West Shore passenger rail and adds to the growing regional momentum behind taking a serious, modern look at this corridor.

From municipal and county resolutions to adopted and proposed comprehensive plans, we’re continuing to build the institutional support needed to move this effort forward.

ANOTHER MAJOR MILESTONE FOR WEST SHORE PASSENGER RAIL!

The Town of Cornwall has officially adopted its updated Comprehensive Plan, and West Shore Line passenger rail is now part of the Town’s long-term vision for the future!

The plan specifically calls on Cornwall to:

“Advocate for West Shore Line passenger rail service and other rail service improvements.”

Even more importantly, West Shore passenger rail is included in the Plan’s Implementation Schedule as an ongoing action involving the Town Board and MTA.

A Comprehensive Plan helps guide a community’s long-term priorities, policies and future decisions. This means West Shore passenger rail isn’t simply being discussed, it has been incorporated into Cornwall’s official long-term planning framework.

This is another important step forward as All Aboard Hudson Valley continues building regional support for a modern feasibility study.

Thank you to Supervisor Josh Wojehowski, the Cornwall Town Board, Comprehensive Plan Committee, and everyone involved in this effort!

🚆 The momentum continues. All Aboard! #westshorepassengerrail #hudsonvalley #newyork #transportation

One of the most consequential conversations at the Greater Northwest Rail Summit was about sustaining passenger rail development long-term.

RPA's Sean Jeans-Gail and Eno Center's Rebecca Higgins discussed federal rail policy and reauthorization, moderated by BSPRA's Dan Bucks.

Sean's takeaway: communities, states, Tribal governments, and railroads are already investing heavily in passenger rail. That work needs federal policy stable enough to plan around.

Thanks to Sean and Rail Passengers Association for joining us in Helena.

Sean's reflections - link in bio.
